Over the years in high school and elementary school, my family has done a huge amount of community service. I used to do it with my family until I got older and was able to drive. In high school, I did a lot of community service not only to get into college, but because it was something I enjoyed personally. I did everything from Adopt a Family for Christmas to picking up garbage off the ground in my town. My family has made community service a very important thing for us. We always try to help out in any way we can, because it feels good to help and because we would want someone to do these things for us. My mother has also always bought meals for the people on the street or handed them extra water bottles we had laying in the car. Little things like handing out needs to a stranger in need of help, is something I have always felt great about. Now, I always try to help out the people on the street. Due to my immense amount of community service, I had won a $1,500 scholarship that twelve other people were running for in my school. I deserved it and I’m proud of myself for everything I accomplished during my time in high school. I will continue to help out as much as I can.
I knew I wanted to work with a partner for this project because it

Every year, we put on a Christmas bingo party so they can win some Christmas gifts and gift cards. It takes about five hours. We give out pizza, drinks, snacks and goodies. I really enjoy doing this because I walk around and ask everyone what they need and how they are doing. A lot of them tell me all about themselves and they enjoy telling me and having someone to talk to. I hand out food and drinks and help them mark their bingo cards. I am surrounded by amazing people who deserve to have fun and enjoy the holidays with people around them. I will always cherish these moments with people and it was always gives me a great
I think that community service is something that everyone should do. Some people only do community service because they need the hours for school or an extracurricular activity, but when you something nice for another person, it not only makes you feel 100 times better about yourself, it also, whether you know it or not, improves another person's life. Being able to give to another person without expecting anything in return is the best quality that a person can have because the 21st century is a time where a portion of people have what they want at their fingertips. What some people don't realize is that not everyone has the blessings of living the life that they have, that is why I try so hard to give back to the community. I personally do community service a lot, and seeing the faces of the people that I have helped means so much to me because I know deep down that I have done something that required me to put others needs before my own. I get that feeling when I help out in the special needs class at my school. I feel complete when the students give me hugs and thank me for my help. That feeling motivates me and makes me a happier person. Even when all I can do for another person is make them smile, I feel like I have done something important that has helped someone more than I
My senior year of high school alone, I completed over 160 hours of community service. Being a full-time student and a part-time worker, unfortunately does not allow for much spare time, but whenever I do have a chance, I always volunteer through my youth group in church. One of my biggest goals in life is being able to give back to the community on a much bigger scale. Ultimately, I hope to even go full circle and give scholarships to Hispanic student like me.
I find myself extremely passionate in Community Service, I have volunteered at Emmanuel Apostolic Church during Vacation Bible School for the past two summers, preparing food, coming up with creative ideas to keep children occupied, and making sure children are safe. During this time my leadership and conversational skills have strengthened. In addition to that, I have also volunteered there on numerous occasions to feed the homeless. In high school, I also volunteered at an Elderly home on bingo night to interact with the elderly, gave a listening ear, it was extremely rewarding to see them smile, laugh, and interact with me as if they had known me for a while; that showed me how much they appreciate having company. I take huge delight in
Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. Whether it be participation in a well-attended project or persistent contribution to a helpful organization, those aforementioned individuals were formative in guiding me towards a path filled with opportunities for having an impact on my community.
I am dedicated to helping out our community and school, because it warms my heart and soul. Seneca said in about 40 to 60 A.D. that you should “be silent as to services you have rendered, but speak of favors you have received.” In other words you should not boast about the numerous projects you have accomplished and how much physical work you executed, but rather pride yourself on how you helped people in community and school, and how you have affected their lives with positive means. I feel life is joyous and it should be the feeling everyone illustrates, and this is exactly what keeps me functioning in the stressful world today. I find comfort in helping others to make their lives a little more like heaven and this comfort motivates me to perform copious service projects to the best of my capability whenever I find the time. Time is fair to the rich, the poor, and to every race, because time is equal and gives everyone 24 hours daily to accomplish their required tasks. Because time is so valuable and I am occupied by difficult advanced placement and honor classes and juggle school, clubs, sports, and friends, I joined Key Club, a high school division of the adult service club, Kiwanis. Key Club opened new doors to make every extra minute count towards helping others.
Finally I feel like I show service, which is the act of assistance, through my community service. I helped the school with the school play my freshman and sophomore years, working concession stands whenever I am able to, and helping the technology department at the school over the summer. I also help in other places in the community. For example every year I try to help put on a thanksgiving dinner for those in need with my church. This skill will help me throughout my life because it shows how important it is to help others.
My responsibilities during my community service were as followed: I go to the synagogue Montreal Torah Center down my street. They have a group for teens my age called Cteens. It is a group where lots of teens my age come and do something different each time to help the community. This year my friend Anabelle and I got invited to participate. Considering it is a Jewish synagogue, we sometimes base what we do on the holidays. To me, community service is simply helping out your community or city. I always thought that ‘hey, what will one basket make a difference to a child’ but one time I actually went to deliver the basket to whom I made it for. The smile on the child’s face showed me that one basket does actually make a difference and...
I had to plan fun events, but also make them very inexpensive. This was an
All throughout America the homeless wander aimlessly looking for a way out, a way back to being treated as people, a way back to their old lives. These are people who have great potential, Many of which had jobs, family, and money. But then something caused that to disappear, and now they need our help. The problem the homeless face is not that they don 't have the incentive and motivation to go and retrieve themselves; it 's the lack of help from the communities they live in. Too often the homeless are left on the side of the freeway holding signs begging for money, with no answer. We live in a world where the homeless can’t get jobs because employers won 't hire them; employers choose not to hire the homeless because a majority of them have
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
The power of one person can truly make a difference in many different lives. Public services make sure we have fresh water and air, food is clean, and material products are safe. If we did not have public services our society would be dirty and unhealthy for everyone. I believe that high schools should have all of the students do volunteer work to be able to graduate. It would help out many different communities and the students would be learning how to do more hands on material. I graduated from Brentwood High School and for the students to be able to graduate we had to do 50 hours of community service. In my opinion, I believe that college students should even have to do some sort of community service to be able to graduate, the service
Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
“Voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area.” That was the textbook definition of “community service.” But notice how it says “voluntary?”, that means doing something on your own free will if I remember correctly. Across America, it’s been a mandatory requirement of young high school and college students to perform a certain amount of community service hours to graduate for quite some time. Some even believe all 18-year olds should perform a whole entire year of community service before they can even go to work to make a living or enter college/university. But this idea is not only a flawed one but a detrimental one as well.
If you had the opportunity to change the world and your life, would you? I have many experiences with volunteering and each time it has left an impressionable effect on me and benefitted the world because of it. Volunteerism gives a person the opportunity to change people’s lives, including your own. Volunteering is crucial to a functioning society and can better the world one person at a time. Volunteerism is essential to creating a functioning society, personal well being, and advancing careers.
I used to hate community service. I only did it if it was a requirement for graduation or for a program. Even when I did community service, I still waited until the very last opportunity to do it. When I heard the words community service, all I could picture is cleaning Philadelphia parks or streets that were filled with trash in either the cold or heat. My mind always went to that space because that 's what my first few encounters with community service consisted of. My high school always had us cleaning something; one time we re-landscaped the parking lot of a homeless shelter. Another time, we cleaned up the weeds out of the loading docks of the non-profit food bank Philabundance. One time my mom made me volunteer
