Growing up, my family has always been a meat and potatoes family. Meat came with every meal. When I was I little, the smell of bacon and sausage always woke me from my deep slumber. The lunches I brought to school were either a homemade turkey sandwich or a couple of boiled hot dogs. If I was lucky and my Dad was in a good mood he would let me have a McDonald’s hamburger for lunch. My family fried a lot, if the house was not overflowing with smell of cooking oil at night then something was seriously wrong.
Most kids at a very young age I grew up hating vegetables. I remember sitting at the table for hours staring at plate full of broccoli. I would nudge and poke at with a fork, but my mother would not let me leave that table without finishing …show more content…

Cathy Dillon whom I interviewed for this paper, who has been a vegetarian for over 12 years. She encountered issues when she began limiting her meat intake. According to Dillon the most difficult part was the changes to her sense of smell and taste. She used to be able to tolerate the smell of various meats. Now certain meats like pork chops make her nauseous just from the smell alone. Our transition to a meatless diet may not be as extreme, but since our bodies are so used to eating meat. Critics of vegetarians’ diets will point out that it is very time consuming to acquire and cook certain vegetable meals. Of course it will be time consuming, people will have to locate grocery stores that will accommodate a vegetarian diet. Vegetarian diets require reading food labels to know what ingredients to look for and what not to look for. Cooking vegetarian meals is a process. It is not something you can simply toss and the microwave and have it ready to eat in several minutes. It is hard to fit these elements into a busy person’s lifestyle. However by planning out your day, and cooking meals in advance time will be saved. Also cookbooks are essential. Dillon recommend that I purchase a cookbook called Thug Kitchen. It provides tons of information about very easy recipes for beginners. This helps reduce the cooking time throughout the
