During orientation for my freshman year at BRMHS, I signed up for piano classes. When I was given my schedule, Piano I was not listed. Instead, I had been enrolled in a media arts course due to the piano classes filling up too quickly. I thought I would hate the class because of my lack of interest in film, television, and broadcast journalism. After my first few weeks in the class, I was hooked. Now, I have been taking media arts courses for over three years. Because of my experience in film and television production, my love for art and creativity, and the joy obtained from entertaining other people, I want to be a film director. While majoring in theater at LSU with a film and television concentration, I will gain valuable skills necessary to create major shows and films, and I will learn to write interesting material in order to entertain others. According to Shawn Frey (Frey), filmmaker with two and a half years of experience, “Skill is something you will acquire as you go along. It takes work and time. It doesn’t always just come naturally to you. You may have to work at it or you may have to have assistance, but whatever you do, don’t give up or say that you can’t do it. You can.” I won’t be able to create a major film on my first or second try, but I know I can. Through shadowing Shawn Frey, I learned that the knowledge that I will gain from more experience in filmmaking and hard work will help me reach my ultimate goal of becoming a major filmmaker. I have been creating minor projects for four years and it is now time to move in to slightly larger projects.
