Recommended: What are your strengths as a writer
Writing is an arduous task. It demands great effort and mastery of the language and of the topic that you are writing. I find writing as something that is both terrifying and exciting at the same time. Writing has always been a challenge for me, but I also feel the ecstatic whenever I get hold of a pen. Sometimes, I stumble over words, but I smile the sweet scent of satisfaction whenever I capture the ideas that I have and watch it take shape in the paper.
As a writer, I think that my strengths include being creative. Having the ability to write something in a different angle is one of my strengths. I also think that being reflective works in my advantage because I am able to come up with good ideas using the things that I know and experienced.

I find it hard to think of ideas to write about. Brainstorming is always my greatest problem. When I am not familiar with the topic that I am to write, I find it hard to think of ideas, details and examples to put in my work. In this case, I always consult different references especially books and also ask different people regarding their views and ideas on the said topic. On the other hand, when I am too familiar with the topic, I get lost in a vast sea of ideas and the tendency is for me to have a hard time sifting and organizing the ideas that I have. Also, I find it hard to be concise in writing. In high school, I was taught that in writing, less is more - less words create more impact - but I find it hard to express my ideas clearly when faced in the constraint of
As stated by Anaïs Nin, “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.” Writing is a beautiful way to express how we feel, to make experiences memorable and to also be whoever we want to be. Writing is not easy for me. I always feel anxious before I begin to write, and this is because I’m always telling myself that “I don’t like to write.” In order to get rid of the nervousness, I start reading about whatever I have to write about so I can enrich my mind about that particular topic. Most of the times this does not work out, therefore I go to sleep and recharge my brain. As soon as I get back up I’m ready to write. My room is an ideal environment for me to write. Nobody’s there to distract me, so I put my headphones on because
Writing is a process in which many people struggle. Just getting started with the process can be overwhelming. The Purdue Online Owl Writing Lab website authors Stacy Weida and Karl Stolley give helpful insight into the beginning steps of the writing process. Together they address the issues faced by many people in their article entitled, Invention: Starting the Writing Process (February 9, 2011). Good writing takes time and planning. It is a good idea to set aside many different time slots to work on what you are writing. Writing evolves planning, prewriting, writing and many revisions. By leaving your writing for a few minutes and then returning you are able to get a fresh look at your work. “Find out when is the assignment due and devise
When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essay is what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For example, if the essays topic is about how the earth is affected by global warming, then the brainstorming ideas might include the ozone lair being reduced or how global climate has raised. The third step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating the rough draft. The first draft must have all the features the final will, but does not have to be...
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
The main reason why I have so much trouble when writing, is because I don 't concentrate
When it comes to writing I have the hardest time in just getting started. I’m a horrible procrastinator and I overthink about my writing before I have even started a sentence. I worry that I will fail to get my point across or sometimes that I have a point at all. I worry that my writing is just a stream of consciousness on paper and that it will confuse any reader unfortunate enough to stumble across my meandering words.
I always manage to do decent work (trying to implement the writing process more now!) but, I know I have potential to do better and I want my writing to flourish and become something great. With that, I do get frustrated and anxious with the thought of writing. I want it to be perfect and hit all the points needed for the assignment and try to grow with it as well.
The most difficult part of writing for me is getting started. I have to find ways to get rid of writer’s block. I have found that being outside helps me to develop thoughts about the topic of my assignment. If the weather is nice, I will go
I struggle with them because I find it difficult to come up with my own original ideas and having to use my imagination. Making my writing flow smoothly when having to create an original story is also another issue I have. Personally, writing them is a time consuming process involving sitting at my desk thinking about it, writing maybe a paragraph or two, another long period of thinking, and repeat. They are more difficult, but I would like to improve my skills so that I can have an easier time writing them. Overall, I have issues with writing and
Learning this weakness in my writing process is important because it has enabled me to mature as a writer. When I started working on my research review article, I decided to try the foreign idea of creating a “shitty first draft”. Instead of staring at my computer screen for hours on end so that all the right words would flow out, I was able to simply create an outline in which I wrote down all of my thoughts and ideas. After my outline was completed, I scheduled my time so that I would sit at my kitchen table for two hours a day to do revision on my paper a week before the assignment was due. What I learned from this experience is that I am a more effective writer when I give myself shorter time intervals to write. This is because after a few hours of writing without any interruptions, my mind tends to wonder, resulting in my thoughts being incoherent. In order to improve my writing from hereon, I plan on altering my writing process so that I am creating a first draft that will eventually result in me having a final draft
Writing: An Incredibly difficult skill Writing is the process of using words to communicate thoughts and ideas into a readable form. As long as I can remember the desire to write has not been one of my personal interest even though one can say that writing is one of the easiest skills ever because writing can come from life experiences, it can be a thought or as simple as wanting to be heard. For me, writing is a difficult skill that I have always struggled with, although it has never stopped me from expressing my thoughts and opinions.
The main reason why I have so much trouble when writing, is because I don't concentrate
As a writer, I would consider myself to be an average writer in need of improvement. My experience with writing has not always been the best because I was exposed to only certain types of papers like self-narratives, book reports, reflective essays and simple one to two-page research on a person’s bibliography assigned to me. Writing has never been my strength because I had to learn the English language at 8 years of age. I had to learn a new language without the help of my parents because they also did not speak English. I was able to overcome this obstacle but till this day, I still have some grammatical struggles. It is hard for me to write and to be able to distinguish my grammatical errors. The English 180 course was challenging and easy at times because it all depended on the assignments. I learned several new techniques of writing that I was never before exposed
Writing has been very challenging for me. Writing has been challenging for me because I have to first think about the message I intend to relay secondly I want to make sure the reader understands the message and lastly I want to make sure my tone is projected appropriately.
For me, writing is the hardest thing because it asks me to create something out of nothing. However, it is also a very enjoyable process because it triggers deep thinking as it digs into my thoughts. Starting with being an awkward writer, I have been shaping my writing process and slowly becoming a better writer. Writing with a computer made me more efficient and progressive, while Professor Greenberg helped me be more precise. I believe now is not the end. I still have many problems with my writing process and I will correct them step-by-step. I believe I will become a better and better writer in the future. There is never enough better.
