A leader once said, “Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions.” That quote basically sums up my ethical leadership policy! The action is the most important factor in my philosophy because one can not be a leader if one does take action to become a leader. I feel that as the years go on I will gain enough knowledge and wisdom to become a great leader. Acquiring leadership skills is something that I hope to continue to attain in order to become a leader. The National Organization for Human Services Standards helped me to create my ethical leadership policy in which I intend to follow in the upcoming years. I feel like Standard 37 helped me to create my ethical leadership policy because as an educator I strive to develop and implement culturally sensitive knowledge, awareness, and teaching methodologies. As a teacher, I am bound to teach in all types of environments and I have to display great culture knowledge of the area so I do not offend any children. I have to be flexible and adapt to any situation that is thrown my way in the classroom. The more adaptable I am the more of a leader I will become. In addition Standard 43 is important as an educator because I am responsible to clearly define and maintain ethical and professional relationships with a student. My ethical responsibility is to treat all my students fairly no matter gender, race, or ethnicity. Discrimination and bias are a taboo in my profession and are most definitely not traits of a leader. My professional responsibility to the students in defined by keeping our relationship strictly about school. That does not mean I will not speak to my students in public but I will not deal with them on a personal level outside of school. The biggest value I have is having a lot of money. Money is the foundation of a happy life! I ranked having a lot of money and family as number one and two because I feel like money is the most important to me. In my opinion, if you do not have money, not necessarily rich status, but enough to get through life living within your means spells a life of struggle. Also family is important to me because family is there to support and love you without any hidden agendas like outside acquaintances might have. I put accomplishing/ achieving at number three because without the number’s one and two to stand behind me I would not have been able to accomplish or achieve half of what I have. Some may say I am an overachiever and I value that opinion very much because that means other see what I see in myself. The last three numbers were the least important to me on the personal value list. World peace is not really that important to me because I really could care less if the world was peaceful as long as it does not affect me. Even though I am still young I placed a life filled with excitement very low because since I had my baby I want her life to be exciting and fun filled, my life is more work and go to school then maybe some fun on the weekend and I am okay with that. When I was a teenager I lived a very fun exciting life and I feel like the rest of my life I can experience other things with my baby girl. The least
