My English Reflection

As the second semester of the first year writing program comes to an end, I have noticed the improvements that I have made throughout the year. There are many differences between what I had learned in high school and what I have been taught in English 5A and 5B. The learning and teaching process that we had acquired was completely different to what I had previously learned in high school. Not only that, but also the fact that our thinking and writing process was different in the aspect of having to integrate our own ideas and viewpoints, something that was not required of us to do. I came in expecting it to be quite the same as the previous English classes that I had taken, but a few weeks into the class, I realized that I was wrong, and that I needed to put in work to fulfil the requirements that were being asked of me. When I first arrived at the university to take my first English course, I came with the expectation that the class would be the same as the senior English course I took in high school. Since I was informed that what I had learned in high school would be equivalent to what would be taught. At first I was confused that we had to add our own views because in high school, we were always told that we were not allowed to do that because no matter what essay we were going to write, our opinion was not allowed. I thought that the idea of adding my thoughts and viewpoints was going to be easy, but when I got my first essay back, I was lacking the “I say” of the essay. So we were given chapters in the They Say, I Say to help with our problems. And throughout the whole semester I was working on perfecting that, I got better, but there was still some work that I had to put in to
