Each person is a created with a blend of traits and characteristics that make us unique and influence how we learn. From the moment we are born, we begin to learn, and the learning process continues throughout our life. How we learn is based on our senses, how our brain processes information, and how we respond to life experiences. Learning types are the foundation of how each person essentially learns. Even when we were completely unaware of it, we were being shaped by our learning types. Learning is most effective when our preferred learning type is used. Understanding how I learn and how my learning type affects me can help me be more effective in adapting to college and life situations. The VARK model of learning categorizes learners …show more content…
I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” Based on that quote, I would have to say that Confucius was probably a kinesthetic learner like me. Having this knowledge about myself can help me in both college and life. Many university courses are centered on lectures and reading and I cannot demand that professors change their style to suit me. Instead, I need to find ways to make the course material more physical and multi-sense to appeal to my kinesthetic style. I can use things such as flash cards to help remember information because I can see, touch, and move them. Writing, drawing, and role play are also physical activities that can be used. When I have tasks to do, whether at home or at work, I need to look for opportunities to have someone show me and then practice doing those tasks. I have to be proactive and ask for examples that I can relate …show more content…
Just as we are unique in our personality and characteristics, I believe that we also have a unique mixture of every learning type. No two people learn the exact same way and that’s what I find beautiful about learning. If we are labeled as just kinesthetic or just aural, we are limiting ourselves and our learning potential. While I struggle with reading a textbook, I love to read novels for enjoyment and learn from them. While I am not primarily a visual or aural learner, viewing a painting and listening to music are important ways to expand my knowledge. It makes more sense to look at and adapt our learning to each situation we encounter and use different learning techniques to assess situations. I find it vital that we fully understand each and every learning type not only to better understand ourselves and to grow in the areas we may be weaker in, but also to better understand our peers and the people we will encounter throughout our
First, let’s discuss the kinesthetic learning style. My primary learning style, kinesthetic, can best relate to constructivist learning theory. The kinesthetic perceptual mode can be defined as one where experience and practice may be learned using all perceptual senses (Fleming, & Mills, 1992). Similarly, the constructivist approach to learning theory is characterized by interpreting reality based upon the learners’ perception of their experiences (Jonasson, 1991). By applying all available senses to the practical application of learning, a kinesthetic learner easily redefines what they know to be true based on concrete examples that are observed and the information received. This is also a great illustration of the advantage of possessing a multimodal learning style.
This essay witnesses my personal learning and teaching style and strategy. I aim to set forth the aspects of teaching and learning that I find help me become a better health care professional. Three of the major learning theories are discussed in order to find the skill sets that each bring to the table. By choosing the skills required in a clinical environment we can pick the required strategy accordingly. I believe that a unique combination of the tree theories where each is able to play to its strength and overshadow its weaknesses is the best teaching-learning strategy.
Intelligence is defined as the power of perceiving, learning, understanding, and knowing. It is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. (Oxford Dictionary). The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination. (Albert Einstein). The overview of learning styles is that each person has a different way of learning and techniques. Howard Gardner, an American developmental psychologist states that not only do human beings have several different ways of learning and processing information, but that these methods are relatively independent of one another. He identifies the theory of multiple intelligences namely visual-spatial, bodily-kinaesthetic, musical, intrapersonal, interpersonal, linguistic, logical -Mathematical. In consideration to Gardner's theory and Kolb's learning style to my very own learning experiences, I believe that interpersonal and diverging classes apply to the sort of learner am I.
It is beneficial to know that I am a visual learner due to the fact I have to visually see things for myself to understand and learn it. Growing up I have always been a visual learner. I found this inventory to be correct because of they way that I am , and how I take things in. When trying an auditory learning method, one big problem I struggle with is being able to pay attention long enough. By obtaining the confirmation on my preferred learning method, I can broaden my learning method by practicing the other learning methods outside of visual learning. I believe that I can open my learning styles by tring the other methods. After reading the learning method I think I will do good if I tried kinesthetic, being that I can see it as well as being hands
There are multiple stages of learning throughout a person's life, and each person will inevitably experience each of these stages.
It is important to know and understand how I learn, in order to do the best that I can. There are multiple different learning styles and each person learns differently. I have a moderate tendency for active learning, I prefer to do things and try things out rather than to just think about it. For example, in math class some people are able to just understand the concepts without doing multiple examples. However, for me, I need to do as many examples as I possibly can in order to fully understand the
Learning is the process of attaining knowledge that can be obtained in a variety of ways. People learn through their own personal experiences, others experiences, actions, and by being taught. Over the year’s psychologist have categorized these different types of learning into more specific categories such as operant conditioning, vicarious learning and observational learning. These three methods of learning, though they all use different techniques, can affect a person’s behavior.
My learning style is primarily kinesthetic, but I have some elements of visual and auditory learning styles. I always knew that I had a short attention span and could be very fidgety. I also knew that I needed breaks when I studied, but I have to disagree that I am not a slow talker. I am a very fast talker and will interrupt you, unintentionally. Before I looked into this I never realized that I would fidget, but looking back in the past I saw that I did fidget a lot. Kinesthetic learners like to learn with a hands on approach, I personally have to learn with real world examples and have it written down. If kinesthetic learners get oral instructions, they are most likely going to not hear them or forget them. I can relate to this, I need to have a physical copy of instructions otherwise I won’t remember them.
Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.
“Learning is a relatively permanent change in behavior that occurs through experience (Santrock, p.146).” By learning how to use a computer you will change from being someone who could not operate a computer to being one who can. Learning anything new involves change. You learned how to use a computer through experience with the machine. Once you have learned to use a computer, the skill usually does not leave you. Similar to learning how to drive a car, you do not have to go through the process again at a later time. There are three main types of learning are classical conditioning (responding), operant conditioning (acting), and observational learning (observing).
The learning perspective what is it? This is the study of how exactly a person is effected through what they learn on a daily basis. Through family, their surroundings and behavior. The people who believe this line of thinking are called behaviorists. Many people look at the learning perspective in a suspiciouse manner not believeing or trusting any of the experiments. But there are many contributions and many limitations of the learning perspective.

There are four ways to learn with the senses. They are: auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic. When asking an educator whether the all the students learn the same they will say “No”. However, that knowledge isn’t brought into a classroom. A classroom is normally 90% lecture and question and answering, but only two or three students will...
In conclusion, auditory learners prefer to learn things visually; they prefer to listen to instructions. Kinesthetic learners rather touch and feel what they are doing. A teacher should evaluate her classroom to see what kind of learners she has in her classroom to be more a more effective teacher. Since in educational psychology there are many branches of psychology that are used to determine learning within the classroom.
Each person has his or her own style of learning. Learning styles include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. In the questionnaire, I learned that I am very much a visual learner. This reflection will show what I have learned about my unique learning style and how understanding learning styles of the children I teach will be helpful as I become a teacher.
