I still remember my visit to dentist during my childhood. I had broken my front tooth. My dentist put a crown on it and I could smile again. That day I was fascinated by dentistry as the profession, as there is nothing better than to put a smile on people 's face. During my frequent visits to the dentist and my family physician, I met a lot of people who were in need and suffering from diseases, I saw my doctor helping poor patients by providing the best possible treatment for free. During adulthood, my interest in medicine, healthcare, and science started running deep. During my interaction with patients, I got to know more about their various untreated illnesses. Just like Larry Brilliant 's effort in eradicating smallpox, I too believe that these diseases can be eradicated, and I would like to be part of it. I had the opportunity to work in a private dental office as an Assistant Dentist. I have been exposed to the wide variety of cases. I got a chance to run a private dental office and test the practical nature of everything that I learned in my dental school. It was a good experience for me to see the implementation of the core concepts in the real world. Although dentistry exposed me to the real world, I always felt that rather than just treating an individual patient in a private office, I wanted to do something bigger. After attending information session by Dr. Monica Allen, I found this program very fascinating because of the diversity of the program and various courses like ‘Health Promotion Planning and Evaluation’, ‘Community Organization and Health Promotion’, ‘Computational Public Health Statistics’, ‘Multicultural Communication for Health Professionals’ will be invaluable, as I want to prepare for a career where I can apply this to enhance current health care needs. Research conducted on HIV-AIDS by Dr. Edward Mamary, work done by Dr. Monica Allen as a public health educator closely matches my interests, I am looking forward to working with them. A variety of courses, a partnership with employers and professional health organizations will help me gain knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in this field.
