My Religion - Original Writing
For my original writing I have decided to write about a time in my
life where I had to make a difficult decision which would have had
completed consequences for me.
Mid September 1996 first day of high school like every new student I
was extremely nervous as this was my first time I been somewhere that
I didn’t know anyone. As I entered the main entrance there was havoc
every as all new pupils where ask to go into the assembly hall to be
allotted to they appropriate form groups. Once I was allocated to my
form group I instantly realised that there were no Muslims in my class
and that most if not all Christians.
During the first few months at high school I found it very hard to
interact with the other pupils as they already knew each other, but
once I felt comfortable I opened up quite easily. It now somewhere
after Christmas time if my memory is right and it coming towards the
holy month of Ramadan where all Muslims who are capable to fast should
participate in a month where we are not allowed to eat or drink during
day time hours.
The first couple of fast I kept I found really difficult as other
pupils teased me as they were having they snacks on they break and
diner. One time as I was sitting in the library during lunch hour a
couple of my mates who were Christians came over just to see what I
was doing. I explained to them that I didn’t want to sit in the diner
as other were eating they food it just made me hungry. As a joke at
first one of the lads pulled out a crisp packet from his jacket and
asked me to take some. I told him that I was fasting and I couldn’t
have anything to eat until sunset. He then kept on asking me several
times to take some crisp I just kept on answering with the same replay
“Wow! You were as hungry as I was. Be a good boy and I’ll see you later.”
to wonder if she felt undernourished because she was getting a balanced diet while in the hospital
I quickly devoured it when I thought no one was looking. When I walked back to my cabin. My dad was sitting inside. Then when I went back in the cabin my dad scolded me and hit me for taking the bread, yelling furiously at me. You could have gotten us in lots of trouble he exclaimed. He then apologized and told me not to do it again. What have I come too I thought to myself.
There are many things in people's lives that define them; a major influence is religion. Against the backdrop of World War II, The Chosen, by Chaim Potok, shows the relationship of two religious Jewish boys, that grow up in very different Jewish sects. At a baseball game that represents a metaphorical war between the Hasidic and Orthodox Jewish culture an unlikely friendship is born. Reuven Malter, raised as a modern Orthodox Jew, accepts secular influences. The other protagonist, Danny Saunders, a son of a Hasidic rabbi, Reb Saunders, is raised as a traditional Hasidic Jew, bound by his father’s strict upbringing. Danny, by birthright, is chosen as his sect’s future rabbi to carry on his father’s dynasty, which causes internal struggle and
manners, I had to sit alone on a separate table. The more I saw the adults
When the food had been brought to my table I could see that there wasn’t as much cheese as I would like for there to be, which also made my rice and chicken taste dry. As well as that problem, I had asked for no jalapenos in my meal but I got them anyway.
While they weren’t looking, I stuck my finger into the gravy bowl and tasted it. It was rich and buttery. I wanted to start eating, so bad. Finally, everyone was at the table and I was eager to dive into the food. I had to wait, though, because dad had to say a prayer. I was annoyed because it seemed like I was never going to get to eat. At last, the prayer was over, so I grabbed the bowl of potatoes in front of me and dumped a huge pile in the middle of my plate. No one even noticed.
...tends to leave one with a heavy stomach so that they need not eat any more. It is also known as ‘Cambooge’ in these areas.
When I was about to tell my brother about all of the meat, he said, “I think I'm getting sick.”
the man ate like a dog, and it showed that he must have been very
Before sitting down, we decided to get our food first. I made sure to grab a lot of turkey but, to also take sides I will eat. I didn’t want to throw away half a plate of stuffing and cranberry sauce. With a plate full of turkey and vegetables, Sam and I pulled up a couple chairs on the far end of the table.
Because I had seafood for an appetizer, I decided on the Spicy Sesame Chicken recipe as my entrée. I was going to ladies night at Aura afterwards. I wanted to be full but not feeling too heavy which beef can sometimes do. Plus the chicken recipe had bacon. You can't go wrong with bacon.
Christianity is the religion of those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and follow the way of life inaugurated by him. More than other major religions, Christianity centers on a person. Muslims do not claim the sort of relationship to Muhammad that Christians claim with Jesus, and the same holds true for Judaism, Confucianism, Taoism, and most forms of Buddhism with regard to their respective founders. The New Testament refers to the community of believers as "the body of Christ," which signifies an intimate bond between Jesus and the church.
After I attempted to eat it, I was full but happy that I tried something new. I'm glad I tried something new and now
Throughout history religion has been one of the main focuses of the human species and has caused many conflicts among people. Several wars have been waged on the bases of religion and faith to gain superiority or to claim holy lands. The conventional modern view of religion is that some religions such as Islam actually promote violence rather than peace. This has been a source of controversy for a number of years creating many debates trying to either prove or disprove the notion that it is religion that promotes violence and not just radical individuals. Religious violence is a topic of great importance due to how it brings unethical behaviors out of people who would otherwise act in ethical ways. Swayed by numerous books, articles and social media the common people are often misguided and have a misconception of violence in religion.
