Amid these previous couple of weeks, I have arrived at numerous decisions about my convictions on creation and development. Before creation studies class, I never took the activity to completely comprehend what I accepted and why I accepted it. I knew the Bible was the wellspring of my convictions and that Genesis was really clear that God had made the sky and the earth. Then again, I trusted that there was no confirmation or physical verification to bolster the Bible. This class has not just permitted me to develop further as a Christian, but likewise has developed in my insight into life and science. Genesis 1-11 represents an accurate, historical account and God created the heavens and the earth in the time and manner specified in Genesis: by His word in 6 days (DeWitt, 2012, p. 29). Martin Luther, the man who started the Reformation, said, “The ‘Days’ of Creation Were Ordinary Days in Length. We must understand that these days were actual days (veros dies), contrary to the opinion of the holy fathers. Whenever we observe that the opinions of the fathers disagree with Scripture, we reverently bear with them and acknowledge them to be our elders. Nevertheless, we do not depart from authority of Scripture for their sake.” Although my friend, Eric Davis, suggested that days were longer back then, he didn’t give a reason why to back up his suggestion. “A day is the length of time it takes for a planet to complete one rotation on its axis – 360°” (Cessna, 2009). The earth has always spun at a constant velocity since it was created and thus has no acceleration. So why would a day back then be considered a different time span that the normal 24 hours? My friend’s view suggests that there would have to be some form of acceleration causing the earth to spin on its axis faster and faster which means that eventually it would have to spin so fast that days would only be a couple hours which doesn’t make sense. However, he couldn’t explain why he believed them to be real people. Although many individuals believe the accounts in Genesis to be a myth, a lot of elements within the Bible suggest Adam and Eve to have been real. For one, it mentions both of them being created within the first two chapters. Also, the Bible clearly states that Adam wrote Genesis 2-5 through this word passed down through generations. Adam was alive with Noah’s father (Lamech) and grandfather (Methuselah), which suggests that they must be descendants of Adam (DeWitt, 2012, p. 19).
