My College Essay
I always avoided Spencer. He was a funny kid but I couldn't stand him, continuously talking about sports and referring to himself as superman. I liked him and we actually got along well when we did spend time together, but we each had our own friends so we rarely ever hung out.
When wrestling season came around we became friends again as we were both on the team. When Spencer told me that day that his brother had hung himself I felt a feeling I had never felt before in my life. Although he was not my brother, I really experienced a feeling of loss, as I have a brother and can understand a brothers love, and can hardly imagine that inconceivable agony one would endure having to experience such a horrific tragedy. I began to spend time with Spencer sheerly out of heartfelt sympathy. It wasn't as if I was such close friends with him, I just really wanted to be there for him. All I could think about was had I been Spencer, how good it would have felt to have someone to be close with and talk to about things.
Spencer used to be the kid I only said "hi" to in the halls, but somehow he had become my best friend. We began to spend a lot more time together, both of us feeling like we had been best friends since the day we were born, as our personalities complimented eachother and were very similar. Spencer taught me so many things that I will use for the rest of my life. Spencer's brother was really his whole life, a best friend and an amazing brother. Coping with the loss of someone who is loved so deeply and having the ability to continue on with everyday life is something which completely amazes me. Spencer taught me that you have to make the best of your situation no matter how bad it can get. Before Spencer I would fight to alter my situation if there was a conflict with it, but with this new perspective on things, I will accept my situation and then try my absolutle hardest to make the best of it. As a person who tends to worry about things too much, now that I am always able to make the best of my situation, it makes things much easier for me to handle.
...lling. Spencer fought as crazy. When the fight starts calming down and the enemies were retreating, Spencer and the boys heard a young boy screaming “Schaefer”. They boys just wanted to finish him right now. But Spencer went down and looked at him. The boy was bleeding from his leg. So Spencer dragged him up to the hilltop. The next thing that spencer saw was a bright flash, and then he had problems breathing. He could hear the voices fading away. Spencer was trying to call for help but he felt to much pain in his chest. He was thinking about his dad and how sorry he was to make the decision to go to war.
Eight Alabama clergymen made a public statement directed towards Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. containing many criticisms against the civil rights movement. The criticisms were as follows: (1) The issue of race relations should be handled by local leaders instead of “outsiders” like himself. (2) Pressing the court and negotiation among local leaders is a better path. (3) The Negro community should be more patient, for the workings of the legal system take time. (4) The demonstrations are “unwise and untimely.” (5) The methods used by demonstrators are extreme and (6) If it weren’t for the police, your demonstrations would have turned violent. As a result, King, while imprisoned in the Birmingham City Jail, wrote them a lengthy letter that refuted all of the aforementioned criticisms and then proceeded to express his disappointment in them for saying such things. Through his skillful use of diction, anaphoras, rhetorical appeals, and syntax, King successfully achieves his purposes: to refute claims made by the eight clergymen while justifying his reasons for the demonstrations he lead and to encourage the clergymen to join his cause.
Martin Luther King, Jr. wants to be the spokesperson of the African American community in the United States of America. His intention is to prove his opponents he has sufficient authority to promote the civil rights cause on behalf of his community. The first example that illustrates Martin Luther King, Jr.'s use of this strategy is present in the second paragraph of his letter: "I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference". Thus, he reminds his interlocutors of his position of leadership in the religious community....
Schizophrenia is a disorder that affects about 1 in 100 people at different stages in their lives and is very difficult to diagnose. It has many symptoms that typically begin to appear around age 18-30 (2). Signs of Schizophrenia can be misread and sometimes overlooked due to the amount of other disorders that share many of the symptoms. Autism is one example. Symptoms can be classified into "negative" and "positive." Negative symptoms could be seen as those that are absent but should be present. Examples of negative symptoms include lack of motivation or apathy, blunted feelings, depression, and social withdrawal (1). Positive symptoms are those that should be present but are absent. Some examples of positive symptoms are hallucinations, delusions, thought disorder, and an altered sense of self (1). It is thought that hallucinations are the...
[1]Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe brain disorder, though most people may call it an illness. With this disorder the person is more likely to experience “Imaginary friends”,[2] Hearing voices that are not there, and being very paranoid. The people who have schizophrenia are often withdrawn and can be agitated easily. [3]The main thought to the symptoms are known to be paranoia, although the symptoms can vary depending on the person and what type of schizophrenia that he or she may have. [6][7]There are five types of schizophrenia, which include, paranoid, disorganized, catatonic, undifferentiated, and residual schizophrenia.
...to identity with at least one of the countries predominate languages, English or French, dictated the degree in which they could participate in Canadian life. According to the Commission, this participation was real under two conditions: “that both societies, the French-speaking as well as the English-speaking, accept[ed] newcomers much more rapidly than they have done in the past; and that the two societies willingly allow other groups to preserve and enrich, if they so desire, the cultural values they prize[d]” (RCBB Book 1 xxv). It creates an interesting take on the acceptance of those “othered” groups, as change was necessary not only on the part of the minorities but also from Canada’s French and English-speakers. The Commissions work remains focused on language and culture, more so than ethnicity amongst a bilingual, bicultural and “othered” Canadian society.

People have all different kinds of values, wants, needs, long-term goals, and short-term goals. Their differences come from many places such as religion or age. These differences are what makes each individuals values, wants, and needs make them unique to each person individually. My values, wants, needs, long-term, and short-term goals are all unique to myself.
When a student gets out of college the game plan is supposed to be, get a job in the field that you went to school for and make money so you can start your life. That particular situation is rare considering not all students get a job fresh out of college. For the students that don’t, they have to go back home and settle for a regular job and start paying off their giant student loans and put their life on hold. Even with having the job they wanted the student loans come right around the corner. After college is when the student’s life is supposed to start and the part where you get a car payment, pay rent, utilities, but none of that is possible when you add the enormous amount of money that the student will be in debt by. With the amount the students have to pay fresh out of college, more students are sacrificing more time struggling to pay off the student loans then they spent in school. Student loans are set-up in a way to be flawed and not always completely necessary to the student.
A college degree is one of the best educations that a person can get. It not only develops your mind, but it helps to develop you as a person as well. No matter what kind of degree you receive, whether it be a bachelors, associates, or masters you are more likely to get a better job than without it or with just a high school diploma. Workers with a college degree will earn much more and are much less likely to be unemployed than those with only a high school diploma. This paper will argue that with a college degree you are more likely to get a higher paying job than without a degree. I will support this argument with multiple scholarly articles and other valid sources to further convince you.
Over the course of Intro to College Writing I have written a total of three essays and turned in. These three essays consist of: Narrative, Profile, and Argumentative. My first essay was the Narrative in which I wrote about the night of my mothers arrest. With this essay. I as a writer was trying to convey the emotions I felt during the experience and describe the many atmospheres that occurred throughout the incident. The only memorable thing from this essay was figuring out how to end the essay in a way that wrapped the entire essay back up in a short meaningful, stylistic way. That I felt I did well with my last line being “That was the first time I had said “I love you” in well, I couldn't tell you.” Through writing that last statement I felt I summed up a struggling relationship I held with my mother sparring details that spanned over years into a simple sentence that echoed around the core concept. This was the only breakthrough I met as I wrote this essay recalling the night and describing my feelings flowed easily and I found myself done quickly. I only stopped to find a fancier word or write a sentence in a different way. Either making it longer, shorter or include more details. I had strong feelings that I communicated the entire situation in a comprehensible and touching way. Looking back on the essay there was much too be corrected as I did in my re-write such as: Organization, fragments, Contractions, comma splices.
In this essay I will compare person-Centred counselling with cognitive-Behavioural counselling and their different approaches and why the counselling relationship is so important. There will be a brief outline of what Person Centred and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy.
Since Canada did not start off as a multicultural nation, how was its identity shaped and molded to the way it is today? We must first understand how Canada differs from other countries in terms of multiculturalism and what the current situation is. Eva Mackey explains that one of the key features that differentiate Canada from the US in terms of national identity and multiculturalism, is a dual process “entailing the management of population and the creation of national identity” (Mackey 2010:1). What Bannerji would add onto the fact that Canada’s nation-building process is different from the US’s is that multiculturalism is “a state-initiated enterprise in Canada, with a legal and a governing apparatus consisting of legislation and official policies with appropriate administrative bureaus” (Bannerji 2000:538). Canada’s policy on multiculturalism was announced in 1971 and the goal of it was to “improve the quality of intercultural relations” (Berry
I worked up the courage to hold Hayden, and he smiled up at me from the cocoon of newborn baby blankets he was swaddled up in. From that moment on, I have strived to be a positive role model for Hayden everyday. I’ve learned to love little kid activities again and try to make even bad days, fun. Becoming a sister has made me a better person, and taught me many life lessons, such as conquering challenge and change, making sacrifices, and learning to care for precious human life.
Throughout life we come across many people, some who influence us in negative ways, and those who influence in good ways, often changing our complete outlook on life. For me, it took the struggle of one of my best friends to open my eyes. I only wish it wasn't too late to thank her.
