Cloud Computing has radically changed the way businesses and consumers leverage technology both professionally and personally. Unlike traditional solutions, cloud-based solutions have not only accelerated the process of IT deployment and process execution but also reduced the burden of ownership to companies. My experience at Infosys Ltd. has acquainted me with this facet of Cloud Computing and given me a chance to work with one of the most innovative company in this field, Salesforce.com.
My challenges as a Systems Engineer, working on the Salesforce.com Level 3 Release Management Team for Motorola Solutions (client), included development, enhancement and deployment of functionalities on the Force.com platform. Creating Apex classes, triggers and visual force pages as well as devising workflow rules, approval processes for user applications on a quotidian basis, helped me hone my programming skills and deepened my knowledge in APEX, VisualForce, jQuery, JavaScript & HTML 5. The added responsibility of assembling and analyzing data using reports, dashboards and graphical tools like Apex Data Loader cemented my data mining and warehousing concepts. Meeting these challenges attributed to the realization that, in addition to offering unlimited possibilities for scalability and virtualization, Cloud-based platform’s potential lies in emerging as a dominant vehicle in application and real-time web development. The ease with which one can develop and manage ERP, HRM and SCM applications on the Cloud enthralled me and cemented my belief that the Cloud Platform is going to be the future of application development.

To understand how cloud computing can be of value to an organization, it is important to us that we understand the cloud and its components. There are three different types of cloud computing services referred to as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). IaaS delivers cloud computing infrastructure servers, storage, network and operating systems as an on-demand service. SaaS is about software deploying over the Internet. PaaS allows a creation of web applications without the complexity of buying and maintaining the software and infrastructure. In this paper, I will suggest that Innovartus Technology Inc should use IaaS as a replacement for PaaS because IaaS is a rapidly developing field with resources such as better services, cost variability, utility pricing model and dynamic scaling.
From our research we can describe Cloud computing as both a platform and a type of application. The Cloud computing platform offers, configures, reconfigures and provisions hardware and software services as needed. Server equipment in the cloud can be physical or virtual machines. Clouds in actuality also offer storage area networks (SANs), network equipment, firewall and other security devices. Cloud computing refers to applications that are not stored or ran from the local systems, but that exist on the cloud and are accessed remotely. Any user with suitable internet connection and standard browser can access a pool of virtualized computer resources in the cloud.
The main driving forces of cloud data storage are reputable companies such as Amazon and Google building comprehensive computing infrastructures (Google, 2009). These infrastructures are removing the complexity of in-house data storage and ultimately reducing costs of limited networked data centres (Hitachi, 2010). The traditional inefficient model of purchasing servers every time you need to accommodate for high use or growth is now being replaced by internet based systems that replicate your data centres but without the big overheads (Google, 2009). This flexibility assists in the ever changing business world and its continuous improvement initiatives to remove waste, improve efficiency, and ultimately reduce costs. Another key driving force is the support for effective business continuity which will remove again the hardware costs and the strain on risk assessment and management. Removing this hassle can free up valuable time for the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Information Technology (IT) department to implement IT and Information Management (IM) efficiently and in due course reduce cost. Werner Vogles of Amazon of Web Services (Twitter) supports the idea of less hardware because if you have to buy more hardware to initiate this cloud movement it is not a cloud. This further supports the need to shed the old procedures of having in-house hardware and data storage and instil efficacy.
