The creation of my lifelong goal began the same day my grandfather realized he was dying. There was no specific career that I had in mind since I was 5 years old when I learned the news that my grandfather had blood cancer. It started out as a cautious medical exam. My grandfather had been feeling ill for the past several weeks so he agreed to see a doctor in an attempt to soothe my grandmother’s worries. What had started as a simple check-up, turned into much more when my grandfather was diagnosed with Leukemia. It changed the entire course of my life, however, at the time, I had no idea. After an arduous few months, my grandfather lost the battle to cancer, an illness that simply could not be defeated. Immediately, I realized that I never wanted to feel this helpless again and decided to become someone …show more content…
Although it was this incident that convinced me to pursue medicine, I had to think critically about how to turn this dream into something tangible. I involved myself in all things that would help me achieve my goal. From keeping my grades up to participating in medical internships, I made decisions that helped me grow as a person and even narrow down the type of physician that I wanted to become. However, getting good grades was simply a byproduct of really trying to accumulate the knowledge and information that I was presented in school. While others simply study to get and maintain a high GPA, I believe that learning should be its own reward, and a strong understanding of many topics, especially science related, is very important to me. It was the culmination of choices that I made in high school such as late night study sessions and devoting my free time to preparing for standardized tests that changed me into the motivated and productive person that I
Ever since I was in middle school I dreamed of working in the medical field. I realized nursing was the profession for me when my grandfather became terribly sick with lung cancer during my freshman year of high school. It puzzled me that one of the healthiest and most physically active people I knew could be afflicted by such a damaging disease. After watching my grandfather’s suffering and the pain my entire family felt from his death, I knew I wanted to go into a field to help others that are facing the same challenges. This is when I discovered all of the opportunities that a career in nursing could offer me.
As an educator my main is to help children to become pedagogically and academically successful. In order to be useful in the society in which they live they need to get a well-balanced education. Besides, we need to offer them a safe and fun environment as they learn. It is equally important, that both teachers and parents should play a decisive role in reinforce children’s emotionally, intellectually, and socially.
Growing up, I have always wanted to be a part of the healthcare field, but I never knew exactly what job I wanted to take part in, until I discovered how broad a nurse’s specialty could be. A Registered Nurse can work in any age group or focus on a certain system of the body. My mother works in the health field as a medical transcriptionist. I became interested in the health field by her many stories she shared with me while she worked in the hospital. She taught me a lot of different things. My family history inspired me as well to join the medical field. My grandma and great grandma both suffered from breast cancer and my grandpa suffered from throat cancer. Becoming a Registered Nurse has been my dream for as long as I can remember. This dream became real to me when my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in her life. I now have what drives me to be a Registered Nurse and to learn more about the career itself so I can help people out live all the odds against them.
Over the course of my eighteen years, I have learned the importance of goal setting, despite if I may have decided to alter a few of them. I have learned that goals are the stepping stones to the future and that future success requires thorough preparation. I began setting goals while I was in primary school which eventually unfolded into a reality as I began my years as a high school student. My years in high school has fostered my short and long term goals as I embark on my journey as a medicine candidate.
My high school psychology course intrigued my desire to pursue psychology in college and the courses offered at State University furthermore solidified my interest to continue in this field. I took a particular interest in theories of personality and upon completing cognitive psychology, I wish to obtain a clinical neuropsychology certificate in conjunction with a doctor of psychology in clinical psychology.
I always knew, without a doubt, that I would attend college. From the time I was very young, it was instilled in me by the adults in my life that going to college and furthering my education was my best shot at being successful. Now that I am partaking on this journey, I can only hope that those people were right.
My personal career goal is to do Information Technology (IT) and how I’m going to achieve that goal is by going to a community college to start off with and then go to a four year college. When I get my Bachler’s degree I will go further into my career into helping my job fix computers when they are broken down. The process of deciding to pursue a career as an IT was is an easy one, but that process has helped me define my career goal, be realistic about what I want, and plan thoughtfully about how to reach my goals.
When I was 6 I thought knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Even though I grew up surrounded by girls who wanted to be princesses, ballerinas, and pop stars I was sure in my decision to be a doctor. My grandma had told me stories about her experiences with school, and how she struggled practically all her life to obtain her profession. She was expected to become a mother or possibly be a secretary. This did not entice her, so defying all odds, she broke the standards and exceeded societal expectations as she obtained bachelors, and master’s degrees- becoming a registered Nurse Practitioner. Her incredible achievements had me seeking nothing more than to follow her footsteps in awe.
My long term career goal is to become a Registered Nurse. The specific training that is needed for me to achieve this goal is to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. In order to complete this goal, I will be applying to the Thompson Rivers University and the University of British Columbia - Okanagan Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree programs. Furthermore, I have to apply to UBC by December 1st, if I would like to be considered for entrance scholarships. Similarly, I have to apply to TRU by January 31st, to be considered for the nursing program. In the meantime, in order to pay for schooling, I will and have been applying to other scholarships available outside of the universities. After I finish my reign as a Kamloops Ambassador,
“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
Every goal in life is determined by the actions we take right now. Experiences and encounters with different people are lessons that teach us something new that could later on be applied in the future. I have always had a passion for helping others. Whether it was listening to people describe their difficulties or helping someone with a math problem, bringing aid to someone in need, to me was riveting. This pattern of helping others is something I hope to continue throughout my life. Biomedical engineering offers me a lifelong opportunity helping others and building a rewarding career. In order to reach this goal I have worked hard academically, and I have participated in numerous extra-curricular activities inside and outside of school.
In the future, I wish to obtain an occupation in the medical field. I would like to start out by working for a Biology major and working in a premedical field in college where I can use my interest in medicine and my curiosity for knowledge to gain insight that would be needed to become a helpful doctor in the medical field. As I move along in my career, I would like to work my way through the pathway so that I can expand my skills in healing others, such as diagnostic abilities, effectively giving treatment and so on. I want to learn as much as possible so I can fulfill my ultimate dream of helping others that need answers to their medical problems and so that more people can live happily and healthily in the world. I hope to bring happiness to others and allowing people to live comfortably.
As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some

It has been my craving in every aspect of life to do things differently, chart my own path and tread in to uncharted territory. Nine years back, this what made me join a course in bachelor of marine engineering at MERI, the only institute in India exclusively offering such a course. Idea of venturing in to high sees, braving the storms with only handful of resources and almost completely cut off from out side world made adrenaline pumping in to my veins. All this along with opportunity to get exposure to highly sophisticated systems on board ships, which was fodder for my technical bent of mind seemed perfect for my adventure seeking personality. Through out my career progression I have made such decisions like joining LNG shipping pool of my company and seeking extra professional qualification of eligibility to sail on diesel engine driven as well as turbine driven ships
