My Career As A Pharmacist

The world of pharmacy has always been prevalent in my life due to the fact that my mother is a community pharmacist. My enthusiasm for the field began during childhood when my mother would convince me to take medication by explaining the positive affect it would have on my body. Due to my interest in my mother’s job, understanding the mechanisms of how medications treated ailments captivated me and inspired me to learn more about her occupation. As a result, I often shadowed my mother at the local pharmacy and observed her duties as a pharmacist. The most memorable part was watching her counsel her patients. After I became set on this career choice in college, I sought classes and seminars that would teach me more about the discipline. I took a class in Pharmacology, where I learned pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and physiology as it pertains to drug receptors. During my freshman year I joined the Pre-Pharmacy Student Association at my university. I often attended their speaker series that featured representatives from biotech companies and various other aspects within the pharmacy field. Like my mother, seeing the positive impact I make on my patients is the invaluable reward I obtain for engaging in this line of work.
