Per usual, the summer months are just littered with sequels – with this year being no exception. From The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Alice Through the Looking Glass to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, you might also make the case that we – as movie lovers – are unjustly subjected to sequels for movies that no one actually asked for.

More to the point, the release of a sequel like My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which came 14 years after its predecessor, or Finding Dory, coming 13 years after Finding Nemo, forces one to wonder if the original creativity well is completely dried up. But, this sequel is crushing to Ruffalo, whose character is written as if he doesn’t have a clue about anything that’s happening around him. Last film, he was the mastermind – this time, he’s virtually the last to know everything.

Much can be said for the rest of the cast, especially Jesse Eisenberg, who takes a major back seat – or at least that’s how it feels. To be honest, Eisenberg is not my cup of tea – as his cocky demeanor on and off the screen is a terrible turnoff, but that doesn’t mean he’s not wildly talented. He just doesn’t impress in this film, again, not that it’s any fault to him. It’s simply impossible to relate to any of the characters this film has to offer.

This time around, that goes double for Woody Harrelson, who portrays two characters, as if one wasn’t enough. Harrelson also portrays Merrit’s twin brother, Chase, and it’s an odd choice without question. The brother element is weak, even though Chase is on the opposing side, and the story could have easily written-in Merrit’s long lost best friend or something to that effect instead.
