Music Analysis.
For my music analysis I had thought about doing something by Pink Floyd, Mozart, or even Beethoven, but I figured that it is done far too often. So I decided to do my music analysis on “I see fire.” sang, produced, and written by Ed Sheeran, with the written assistance of Charlie Miner. It is a simple but beautiful piece of music that I feel I can analyze well. Many say this song is new folk, but I would only classify it as folk, its simple accompaniment of strings combined with the soft voice of Ed Sheeran reminds me of something like a bard traveling and spreading the word about heroes planning to go into battle. While it is a simple song with guitar, violin, piano, bass, cello, with percussion backing it all up simply and beautifully, all music now days are mixed and edited in the hopes that it will improve consistency and even the subtlest instrument in the song. His voice is remastered as

But it is part of a soundtrack, and that cannot be easily overlooked. It is a soundtrack to the movie The Hobbit. It is meant to tell you the panic and desperation of the main character Bilbo and the dwarves when they realize that they have found the dwarves gold, but has also awaken Smaug, a horrible dragon that guards the gold that he stole so long ago. With Smaug awake, he will toy with these characters, but he promises that he will decimate the nearby village as he did so long ago. This song, to me, is covering that feeling of realizing that they had awoken the sleeping dragon, and people will die. It is meant for a soundtrack, but to me stands on its own merit easily as a good and well-structured song. Ed Sheeran has been heard to have said that he wanted to make a very loud and amazing epic song for this soundtrack song. But, instead, he decided to make it folk, so it could be like a bard of the time singing the story of our heroes. Personally, I think he made the right
The live theatrical production I chose to see was 9 to 5 The Musical. The production was performed by Fayetteville Technical Community College’s very own Fine Arts Department. The musical is based on the film released by Fox in 1980. Collin Higgins adapted the film from the book 9 to 5 written by Patricia Resnick. It wasn’t until 2008 that the film was adapted to a theatrical production. The production was originally brought to broadway by Robert Greenbait and Dolly Parton wrote the lyrics and the music for the Musical. The run on broadway was very short but the production later toured in other countries around the around the world.
The play I went to see was The Music Man performed by the Mesa Encore Theatre at the Mesa Community College. I saw this performance on November 20th. The main performers in this play were Zac Bushman as Harold Hill and Lauren Koeritzer as Marian Paroo. Alongside them, a mix of both adults and children as young as 8 acted in this production. The cast and crew used appropriate clothing to match the time and place. Lights were utilized scarcely, with not much more than spotlights or front and back lights. The set was extravagant, cute, and fitting for the setting and time. Overall, this musical was vibrantly performed and left me with positive impressions regarding presentation and production.
“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent (Hugo, 2007).”Whether you grew up in the Roaring 20’s or in the Disco 70’s, music was a strong source of fun and entertainment. It is an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color. If you ever heard the phrase “Do the Hustle” you would most likely be referring to the disco era of the 1970’s compared to the “jazz age” of the 1920’s. Both eras with their common and uncommon comparisons made a historical and unforgettable impact on today’s music.
As you can see in the Killers’ version it has straight for music structure from the table above. If we compare this with Paul Anka’s rendition of Mr. Brightside, he does sing all the verses in the same order, and leaves out some words, but on the second time he only sings the second verse. So already, it is clear that Anka is making this his own song. To get a better understanding about where these changes occur, see the list order below:
Today I will be describing my design for a music video set in ancient Sumer. My video will depict elements from the Hymns of Inanna and the video of “Blurred Lines.” These two elements will allow a reflection of the cultural metanarrative and the sexual script of ancient Sumer. The video will play out between two gods and a priestess. My video will have four main sections that will breakdown what the video consists of and how it all comes together. These sections will be my main characters, setting, imagery, and lastly the theme of the video. There will be subsections that serve to only expand on each of my main sections and to give clarity to them.
People rarely read poetry anymore; countless people listen to it. Our primary form of poetry today are songs. As a result of the innumerable poetic elements found in them, song lyrics are poetry. I See Fire by Ed Sheeran has poetic merit due to its imagery, figurative language, and theme.
A typical corrido is defined as a lyrical narrative that consists of eight quatrains with four to six lines. However, the significance does not lie within its musical structure; rather it is shown through its lyrics. The corrido depicts historical events; not through informing its listeners, but strives to use interpretation as a bridge of communication. The lyrics express topics from love and immigration to drug trafficking and malicious events. The Mexican community is able to emotionally connect with the lyrics materializing a sense of identity and pride - preserving historical and malicious events and cultures that have sentiment value.
This piece has a full texture, as for most of the ime there are more than one instrument playing harmony or melody. This song has an on the beat rhythm, and is played in quadruple meter. This song has a medium-fast tempo for a majority of the piece. This song has a light but brassy imbre due to the violins oten holding the melody, but while receiving string harmony from the brass secion at imes. This song has a clear color from the crisp notes played by all instruments. This song comes from the end of the ballet, The Firebird Suite. This song is played with loud dynamics for a majority of the ime, but has brief moments of sot dynamics that build up to loud dynamics. This song from The Firebird Suite is the revised ediion from 1945. Ballets aim to tell a story using music and dancers, not having any dialogue in the piece. Ballet music is used to relay the emoions of the story to the audience, while the dancers tell the story throughtheir dancing. This song creates emoion through their use of changing dynamics, choice of instruments, and tempo played at. The music alone is able to create a feeling inside the listener, even without seeing the dancers showing it is used to do just that. Without music ballets wouldsurely be a
Major social and economical changes occurred in the United States during the time of 1917-1935. At the beginning of the time period the United States military entered into World War I. Over the next twenty-three years’ important events that took place included the Eighteenth Amendment, starting prohibition, the Nineteenth Amendment, giving women the right to vote, and the United States entering into the Great Depression. In chapter three of American Popular Music the author describes these events in direct correlation to the music history. Major points regarding what influenced the nations culture and identity included the popularization of radio, the Jazz Age, and the successful Paul Whiteman.
First of all, there are various differences between the styles of bebop, cool, hard bop, free jazz, and fusion. Bebop seems to be the most intricate with its erratic tempos, while cool is the most soothing and relaxing. On the other hand, hard bop is the most brassy and dynamic with its horns, trumpets, and rhythm section, while free jazz is the less restricted. Free jazz exhibits no boundaries, no form, and no newly established rules. Fusion is a combination between jazz and rock, in other words, fusion exhibits extreme electronic use, effects, and synthesizers, in addition to jazz elements.
Form gives organization to sounds. It refers to the overall structure or plan of a piece of music. It is with the patterns, motifs, and cadences contained within form that help make music enjoyable to listen to. In Roger Scruton’s “Aesthetics of Music” Scruton states in Ch. 10 that form relies on two concepts, deep structure or linear and hierarchal order. Deep structure is the concept that most organized sounds have an underlying form. Deep Structure exists within language particularly in the study of syntax. In language deep structure is a theoretical concept that unifies other structures. An example of this would be how the sentences “Max loves Sara” and “Sara is loved by Max” mean the same thing and use similar wording.
‘Analysing popular music: theory, method and practise’ (Tagg, 1982) is an article that illustrates brilliantly the issues and nuances of analysing and discussing popular music. It lays out a scientific method for achieving analytical goals, using some of Tagg’s previous work to help explain his methodology and process. In the first part of this essay, I will discuss the analysis of ‘Kojak Theme’ (Goldenberg, 1973) and ABBA’s ‘Fernando’ (ABBA, 1976) that Tagg writes about in his work.
The song “Colorblind” by The Counting Crows nothing less than perfect for the scene it was chosen for in the film “Cruel Intentions”. It was played was one of the film’s main characters lost her virginity to another character. Though it was a beautiful fit for the scene which it played upon I don’t believe the meaning behind the song is the newness of being deflowered. The lyrics and the instrumentals accompanying them are both extremely simple in contrast to the actual meaning behind the song. To be quite succinct, the song itself is relatively simple but it is the meaning and the effort put forth in each and every line that makes it so deep.
To fully understand any musical style, one must be able to analyze the various elements of music as they exist in that particular style. In this first musical close-up, we shall briefly describe these elements of music. In subsequent musical close-ups, we shall examine one or another of these elements in greater detail as it pertains to a given style or topic.
My hypothesis is that for category Love/Emotion will have a bigger outcome, due to how much I have a desire of wanting to be loved and how they connect to my emotions from heartbreak to feeling giddy..
