Music Analysis.
For my music analysis I had thought about doing something by Pink Floyd, Mozart, or even Beethoven, but I figured that it is done far too often. So I decided to do my music analysis on “I see fire.” sang, produced, and written by Ed Sheeran, with the written assistance of Charlie Miner. It is a simple but beautiful piece of music that I feel I can analyze well. Many say this song is new folk, but I would only classify it as folk, its simple accompaniment of strings combined with the soft voice of Ed Sheeran reminds me of something like a bard traveling and spreading the word about heroes planning to go into battle. While it is a simple song with guitar, violin, piano, bass, cello, with percussion backing it all up simply and beautifully, all music now days are mixed and edited in the hopes that it will improve consistency and even the subtlest instrument in the song. But it is part of a soundtrack, and that cannot be easily overlooked. It is a soundtrack to the movie The Hobbit. It is meant to tell you the panic and desperation of the main character Bilbo and the dwarves when they realize that they have found the dwarves gold, but has also awaken Smaug, a horrible dragon that guards the gold that he stole so long ago. With Smaug awake, he will toy with these characters, but he promises that he will decimate the nearby village as he did so long ago. This song, to me, is covering that feeling of realizing that they had awoken the sleeping dragon, and people will die. It is meant for a soundtrack, but to me stands on its own merit easily as a good and well-structured song. Ed Sheeran has been heard to have said that he wanted to make a very loud and amazing epic song for this soundtrack song. But, instead, he decided to make it folk, so it could be like a bard of the time singing the story of our heroes. Personally, I think he made the right
