Banning abortion, put women at a higher risk of going out and finding illegal way to have the procedure done (“Abortion Information” 1). Once abortion became illegal in the United States 1.2 million abortions were preformed illegally. Dangerous attempts have been made by women to preform their own abortion, or have them done by unskilled surgeons often with dangerous instruments and sometimes in unsanitary conditions. Serious complication from unsafe abortion included, “perforations of the uterus, retained placentas, severe bleeding, cervical wounds, and rampant infections” (Currie 17.) Abortion has become safer over the years and should be legalized in every state in the United States; abortion should also be kept private between the client and doctor.

The topic of abortion is one of the most controversial issues in today’s society. Thousands of abortions take place every single day, and yet public opinion remains at a standstill as to whether or not abortion is ethical or not. According to a poll in 2013, fifty-four percent of the American public believes that the practice of abortion should be legal in all or most cases (“Public Opinion on Abortion”) Abortion has been defined as “the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a pregnant woman prior to the completion of the full term of pregnancy”(Rich, Wagner, and Geraldine). There are very strong opinions for and against this issue, but no one can deny the vast gray area of abortion. A person’s stance on the situation is often determined by how he views the fetus: a part of the mother’s body or as a human being.
Aborting is somewhat selfish, in the ways that a child could be saved, given up for adoption or left at the hospital to be put in a good home. Ending their lives because it is your “right” is unfair. Abortion sets a bad example the future of our nation. We know this through research. With a study towards attitudes about abortion in young adults ages eighteen to twenty one, from the years 1977 to 1993.
(Jones) That is four in ten babies that never get to see the light of day. And that isn’t even counting the illegal or accidental abortions that also occur in the U.S. All of this occurs because of one decision that is far from simple, life or death. That decision is ultimately up to the mother carrying the baby, except for the few states which have laws stating a parental guardian must agree if the mother to be is a minor. But that decision is not one that should ever be taken lightly. Abortion has becomes well known, and is sure to start an argument between two disagreeing people.

Perhaps the woman was raped and became pregnant, the baby had been diagnosed with a defect, or the woman’s health might be at risk. Accordingly so, making an abortion seem like it may be okay due to those tragic events. However, one tragedy will not answer these problems with another one occurring. Murdering could be easily defined as killing somebody who does not want to be killed, as well as, cannot speak for one selves (Dictionary). To begin, a child does not have a choice whether it would like to be born or not.
Women today do not seem to understand that having an abortion can have major effects on her life in the future. Having an abortion can not only affect a women’s life but it can also affect everyone else around her. When you have an abortion you are killing your unborn child and risking your own life just because of reasons you cannot justify, so it is very important for women to be aware of the of the way an abortion procedure is done and the affects the abortion can have on the mother. People do not believe that abortion is a serious problem because they do not know what it is or how it is done (“Abortion Methods”). When a woman is 12 weeks pregnant and decides that she does not want her baby, a type of abortion is performed called suction aspiration.
Abortion is a very serious situation, one out of four women goes through with an abortion; most of these women are under the age of eighteen. Most people believe abortion should stay legal, because they feel that abortion is helpful in their situations. But there is also a handful of people believe abortion should defiantly be illegal, because they feel that having an abortion is not a useful procedure. In most cases people would have to agree with the handful of people that are against abortion, unless in serious cases because abortion happens way too much. Another reason for abortion to be legal is if the mother had done drugs or drank lots of alcohol, while being pregnant.
