Introduction My internship started on May 27th, 2015 at the American Red Cross (ARC) Eastern PA, with the Services to the Armed Forces (SAF) division. I joined ARC in October 2013 as a Disaster Action Team responder, but due to previous obligations I was unable to respond to an emergency, it was during this time that I quickly joined SAF as a caseworker/representative. For my internship I became the regional coordinator for the SAF division of the American Red Cross Eastern PA region which consists of 17 counties (See Appendix E). My duties consisted of performing SAF casework, attending veteran events representing the Red Cross, accompanying my supervisor to meetings and putting together a team of case workers, training them and setting

Child Protective Services systems are often called “broken,” and the case of Logan Marr is a solid example of why. Logan was taken away from her mother, Christy, after an extensive battle that involved accusations, investigations, and mandates. After the struggle, Logan was finally placed into a foster home under the supervision of Sally Schofield, a child caseworker of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Schofield admits that she soon saw that book-learning and experience were two different things. Her lack of true preparation for the supervision and care of Logan ultimately lead to the death of the child.
Christina and her family wish to successfully reunite despite the abuse that occurred in the past. The abuse was brought to the attention of Child Welfare by a teacher who noticed bruises on Christina. The fact that Christina was reluctant to discuss the bruises made the situation all the more suspicious and thus resulted in reporting the situation to Child Welfare. At this point, both the parents and Christina have stated they want their family to eventually be reunited. This is the broad goal that will be used as a starting point by the agency. The purpose of this discussion is to develop a goal plan for Christina and her family that emphasizes family reunification. There are four main points that this plan must address: goal objectives, strengths of the family, target dates of goals and interventions that will be used. In order to address these points the discussion will be split into 4 sections and each of the points will be addressed in a separate section.
The relationship between multitasking and critical thinking is that multitasking hinders critical thinking. According to the article Foundations for Critical Thinking,“Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information.” So how are people be able to critically think if they are being distracted by multitasking? In the short clip “Multitasking and the Effects on Concentration” Cliff Nass talks about how some companies encourage their workers to keep their emails and social networking sites up while they work because they think workers will multitask and get more work done. Nass argues that multitasking will do the opposite. In
We sat for two and a half hours with the sister and the treatment team trying to decide if he was independent enough to live in a housing residence from MHA. When I left my internship, it was decided that the director of MHA housing would have multiple dinner meetings with this young man and decide if he would qualify for housing with MHA and be capable of living on his own for the most part. His violence was a concern for the other residents as well. It was amazing to watch as the community come together to help this man and his sister. Using the local services, therapy approaches, and compassion towards this family, decisions were made and help was on its way.
This role enables me to be able to interact with customers and clients on a daily basis, which suits my customer service background as I have previously worked in Screwfix and Sports Direct, excelling in both those sales roles. However, the role also entails checking finance agreements and contracts daily, monitoring key business controls and handling financial reports. This side of the role suits my Economic and financial background as I have previously worked as an accountant in a global asset management company over consecutive summers. This shows I have the ability to work effectively and efficiently in an office environment. The skills I have for this role include: IT skills – Microsoft Word has been used extensively throughout education and I used Excel everyday while on work experience, I am comfortable with using v-lookups and pivot tables.
Multitasking is something that I constantly do, but am not very good at. As I am typing this there is an episode of Unsolved Mysteries that I am supposedly watching, the phone is right next to me so I can check the news, in what I know will be about two minutes, and my dog is bringing me his ball to play fetch with him. I am terrible at concentrating on one thing alone, but that does not mean I do not pay attention to each thing individually. Of course, I will not remember what this specific episode of the show is about, but I know this response will be exactly as I want it to be, as I will read it over once I am done. Is this efficient? Or has it helped me complete tasks to the best of my ability? I do not think I can truly know if the tasks I complete are to the best of my ability, but if my GPA and grades are a direct product of my ability to multitask, then I would say I do rather well.

Students today are being brought up with wired and wireless distractions. (Richtel, November 2010). More and more students have cell phones, smart phones, and video games. They constantly simultaneously use multiple personal electronic devices to do such things as texting and updating their Facebook pages.
