Noises Off! Reflection From what I observed, this was a very well performed play. Within the first 10 minutes, the actress who plays Mrs. Clackett had already clearly shown me what exactly was going on; a play within a play. The actress did her job correctly as she flowed in and out of character as if it were natural. The same can be said for every other character in this show- the setting and situation of the story were clearly conveyed in the way each character behaved, all while delivering lines that require comedic timing. Act one was the least interesting compared to act two and three. I thought the buildup of the play in act one was excellent. The suspense and anxiety provided a great basis for the entire performance. What I admired most about this act was the introduction of the character’s complicated relationships. I thought it was interesting that we can hear the actors performing out front, but what we see is the back side of the scenery flats, the stage manager trying to keep the action flowing, and the various antics of the actors offstage between their exits and entrances. The actor that played Selsdon was by far my favorite in the way he delivered his lines as if he were actually extremely intoxicated. Each relationship had developed over a month, and I thought the actors did a great job of conveying that in a candid way. The purposeful messiness of this performance really
