Mrs. Barbara Allen Barrett, age 39, was previously married to Michael John Reed who she had two offspring with, Catherine Reed, 16, who attends Givenchy Academy and Todd Michael Reed, 18, who attends Stanford. Barbara and Michael were married for 9 years before they decided to get a divorce. She met John Walker Barrett 2 years after her separation at a functions for a garden.
When Barbara first met John she was immediately attracted to him because of his charisma, manners, and intensity. They talked at the function for a while before deciding to get some fresh air. After talking about John 's job, he pushed Barbara to the ground and started to remove her clothes. Thankfully, she was able to push him off and return home without creating a big problem. For a couple weeks after the incident, John sent Barbara flowers and many apologies. Finally, Barbara forgave him and decided to go out on a date. She said that since the charity event he was a perfect gentleman. They dated for about 6 months before they decided to get married. Once they were engaged for a while, she started to notice that he became aggressive and moody when he drank a lot, but when he was sober he was very kind and sensitive.
Two weeks before their wedding, John got into one of his abusive cycles and had extreme acrimony towards Barbara leading him to slap her because she made the drink he asked for to weak. Not only that but several months after the wedding Barbara got worried about John because he had been coming home late, so one night she decided to go to his office to check up on him. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, Mrs. Barrett suffered from many years of abuse from her husband. She finally snapped and shot Mr. Barrett, killing him. She did this because in self- defense and beyond reasonable doubt that he would have killed her. She also should be able to claim Battered Woman 's Syndrome because she went through the stages of abuse and meets the qualifications of a battered woman described in Leslie McGuire’s book. In the end, Mrs. Barrett should have Leslie McGuire testify because she is very experienced and widely known, she has heard and counseled people in over 300 cases. . She is a reliable person with good intentions and will only help the case. I hope that you make the right decision today, Thank you.
