The Life and Times of Mozart Born in 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a prodigal composer by the age of five, composing over six hundred pieces such as symphonies and concertos before his death at the very young age of thirty five. Out of the two most well know classical composers, Franz Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven, it was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who composed the most compositions in such a short amount of time. A discussion of the time, life, and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will follow. The classical period of music was an exciting time that lasted from 1775 to 1825. The name classical is appropriately applied to the period because in art and literature, there was a very keen interest in emulating the classical artistry and literary heritage of Greece and Rome (Insert citation). This period in time is mostly referred to as the Age of Enlightenment. During this time in history, musical concerts played a major part within the musical scene. These concerts were open and written for the common folk of the era to enjoy instead of keeping music written exclusively for churches and the courts of the time. This period in time was very much open to change and the music that was composed in this era
He was a choirboy at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna at the age of eight (Insert Citation). Haydn went down many career paths after leaving St. Stephen's in 1749. Which include, becoming an assistant to Nicola Porpra, musical director for Court Morzin, and then music director for the Esterhazy family. Haydn returned to Vienna in 1795 during which he composed his most important choral music: six masses for Prince Nicholas Esterhazy and two oratorios, The Creation and The Seasons being the most significant out of all of the works. His work was greatly celebrated after he produced his latest compositions. He passed away in 1809 in the very same place where he created his most significant
