What are motivational theories, and how can these theories help to motivate individuals within the workplace; and what type of motivational theory does my manger use to keep us motivated at work. Motivational theories were designed to drive people to be motivated, to meet company goals; and expectation within the organization. One of those theories is the hierarchy of needs, the second is hunters intrinsic/extrinsic theory; both theories would be beneficial to all employees while helping him to become more motivation, self-sufficient; and accountable. While everyone has some form of need from time to time, some people also need some form of motivation; the usage of these motivational theories will help in meeting those expectations. In the phycological aspect of needs it usually includes those necessities to live which are food, clothing, shelter, water; and homeostasis. Because of these essential needs one is motivated to strive to achieve them, by working harder at meeting these goals through that of fulfillment and motivation; without the motivation, we don’t realize their maybe others that need to be fulfilled. That’s why we strive to stay motivated to encourage us to meet our next level within the hierarchy chain of needs, because people don’t give people their necessities to survive; they give people the opportunity to make a difference for themselves by earning their keep through the process of making money. Next is the safety need, like knowing their job is secured thus giving them peace of mind and security to know that they can go to work, and all their bills and livelihood is taken care of; giving these associates peace of mind and security. Another issue that employees face from time to time is the fear of belonging (or belonging needs), meaning employees are afraid to speak up about his/her problems with another individual (such as their boss) in fear of the consequences that he/she may endure; like the lack of one own self-esteem. Meaning people have the need to be within the company of others, or socially involved, giving them the status of belonging to a social group; other than their own. This building up their rank among others as well as building their motivation, giving them morals; and the ability to believe in oneself. Giving them the power to “be all you can be or self-actualization, while attaining the highest level; and achieving the most he or she can” (Drafke, 2009, pg. 357). Because without these morals soon people lack motivation along with the ability to strive due to the lack of those morals and self-esteem
