“Mother” Jones & Cesar Chavez “Si se puede”, Is something Ceasar Chavez said when he wanted to inspire people and change their lives. Cesar Chavez changed farm workers lives by getting them new rights,better pay, and got them safer working conditions. “Mother” Jones helped the rights of factory workers, but the laws she wanted to be passed didn’t happen until a few years after her death. They both helped workers rights but Mother Jones did a little more than Cesar Chavez because she physically helped the factory workers by getting them safer working conditions so they did not get hurt. She got them rights for safer working conditions with safer machines. Before the factory workers had better rights and safer working conditions, many factory workers would have some of their limbs cut off by the machines. “Mother” Jones started non-violent marches to try and get the factory workers better rights. She didn’t succeed when she was alive, but the laws were passed a few years after she died. She raised the awareness of what happened in the factory, and that is one of the reasons those laws were passed. They both helped people with their rights and changed their lives. I think that Mother Jones did more than Chavez because she helped the workers physically. She managed to get the laws passed so they would get safer working conditions so they didn’t lose any limbs unless they weren’t careful. This is why Mother Jones did a little more for workers rights. They realized the importance of education and utilized it to change the climate of their time. I think these to women defined the term "ordinary to extraordinary". They had both broke through color and gender barriers and earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, politicians the African American people. Who knows what would have happened if these two brave women did not stand up and accomplish what they had done. Would "White Supremacy" prevail in a post WWII society. It is hard to quantify the contribution of these women to the civil rights movement but I think it is safe to say that we were fortunate as a nation to have these great crusaders, as well as many other notable figures, to educate us and force us to see change in the United States.
Cesario Estrada Chavez, or Cesar Chavez, as he is more commonly known, was an American farm worker, community organizer, and civil rights leader who co-founded the National United Farm Workers Association in 1962. His accomplishments as a leader have been chronicled in numerous literary works and have upheld him as one of the most recognized Mexican-American leaders of the last century. In this piece, I aim to analyze Cesar Chavez's leadership style by looking at his accomplishments as a leader, and explore some of his many enduring contributions to society. I will use Peter Northouse’s book, Introduction to Leadership, to help examine Cesar Chavez’s approach to leadership.
Cesar Chavez was an effective leader for many reasons, but mostly it was because he never gave up. Chavez was born on his grandfather’s farm during the Great Depression. When he was still young, his family lost their farm and became migrant workers meaning they had to move many times. Chavez attended 36 schools up until eighth grade when he dropped out of school to help his family out with the farming. While he worked in the farms, he was exposed to the hardships of farm life. Since then, Chavez decided that he did not want anyone else that was a farm worker to experience the same things he did. He wanted to follow in the steps of Martin Luther King Jr and Gandhi to protest in a nonviolent way.

I have shown what a great man Cesar Chavez was how he brought changes to the immigrant field worker. He and a lot of immigrant worker, worked hard for what they believe was injustices to them and their families; the low pay, the long hours worked with no overtime, and no health benefits, by going on strikes, marches, and fasting. Chavez was an American labor leader who with Dolores Huerta “co-founded the national farm workers association”. He fought for higher wages the people who worked in the fields but the richer people declined to pay migrant workers fair wages because they were Hispanic. Once again the problem was equality; back then equality and injustice was an omnipresent issue and no one wanted to stand up for what was right because they were too scared of the consequences. Migrant workers got furious because the white supremacist thought that working in the fields was an easy job. Even though they knew that while they were picking up grapes, pesticides were being thrown over them. Cesar Chavez was furious that they thought of them like they were inferior, he decided to go on a strike. He knew it was not going to be easy, but he wanted to fight for what was right, and he was not scared of the consequences. In paragraph 2, they describe how as a boy, he worked in California’s “fields, orchards, and vineyards, where he was exposed to the hardships and injustices of farm worker life.” Most of the selection explores Chavez’s accomplishments as a leader of the migrant labor movement. 1. Dolores Huerta was a member of Community Service Organization (“CSO”), a grass roots organization. The CSO confronted segregation and police brutality, led voter registration drives, pushed for improved public services and fought to enact new legislation. Dolores Huerta wanted to form an organization that fought of the interests of the farm workers. While continuing to work at CSO Dolores Huerta founded and organized the Agricultural Workers Association in 1960. Dolores Huerta was key in organizing citizenship requirements removed from pension, and public assistance programs. She also was instrumental in passage of legislation allowing voters the right to vote in Spanish, and the right of individuals to take the driver’s license examination in their native language. Dolores Huerta moved on to working with Cesar Chavez. Dolores was the main person at National Farm Workers Association (“NFWA”) who negotiated with employers and organized boycotts, strikes, demonstrations and marches for the farm workers.
