The most influential person other than my parents in my life is my boxing coach. My relationship with my influential person is that he is my boxing coach. I met the short, funny and arrogant boxing coach the summer going into 9th grade. I had always wanted to box so my dad did not feel that I was mature enough to handle the stress of boxing and school. Once my dad felt that I was emotionally mature enough to join the sport it was almost my freshman year of high school. He heard that it was a great boxing gym to go to. The boxing gym was in East Cleveland it was called the Martin Luther King Civic Center. When my dad and I finally went to said gym we were greeted by my coach’s son also named Safo. He showed me how to discipline myself and challenge myself to box better. I used to try to sell myself short at boxing practice.I would always try to not run all my laps, not do the number of pushups I supposed to do and be lazy. I never felt good about myself after. After he taught me to push myself past my limit and i’ll become a lot better. He taught me when you decide in your heart, that you want to succeed, your mind will take over. You begin to make boxing your sole purpose in life. It was hard to convince myself to do things that I thought I couldn’t do. My coach Safo helped me do this by him believing in me. He always made sure I had a ride home and made sure that I had everything I had. He also told me like it was and never lied to me. I knew he cared because when I did not show up to practice he would try to figure out where I was. He is the greatest coach I had ever had in any sport.
