Clarence nudged Logan, jabbing him sharply in his side. Logan shook awake, disoriented as he stared at glowing sunset. He sat up and brushed off his shirt. "What’s happening?’ Logan said. "You fell asleep man, come on get up we have to go. We didn’t come back from college for you to sleep. We’re on a mission from God", Clarence replied. Logan grabbed his soft gray sweatshirt and flung it over his torso. Both of them ran to Clarence's rusty orange truck. Today was the day that the high school seniors were graduating. Logan and Clarence drove to the school and watched all the figures veiled in purple and yellow form into one massive body. They waited 15 minutes just to make sure the coast was clear. Clarence nodded at Logan and they both jumped out of the truck. Clarence grabbed a crowbar while Logan bolted towards the door. Logan took a bobby pin and jimmied the lock open; he slowly opened the door and shoved Clarence inside. The door slammed behind them. They stood still for a minute letting their eyes adjust to the darkness. Logan motioned towards Clarence for them to start searching. "We can talk, you know. Everybody is outside at the ceremony", Clarence said. "What if there’s a janitor doing some cleaning?” Logan questioned. "Well if he gets in our way he'll get a swift kick from me", Clarence stated, "also when have you ever known a janitor to come in on a weekend?" he questioned. Logan shrugged and the two tiptoed through the halls in search of their prize. Clarence walked with his crowbar banging against each locker. "Oh now you're just making noise despite me" Logan said. Clarence let the crowbar hit his side as they continued to roam the eerily dark and empty passageways of Midtown High. The pair rounded the corner the... ... middle of paper ... ...minutes and then he slept, picture in his hand. He woke up to Clarence hovering over him. Clarence was holding the picture. Logan lunged toward him. “So your whole deal, it’s about a girl” Clarence teased. “Who is she?” he continued. Logan was forced to tell Clarence the story of the stream, leaving no detail undocumented. Clarence agreed that it was crazy to obsess over this girl. “Come on”, Clarence demanded, “I’m taking you for coffee”. The orange truck rattled as they rode. They sat outside in silence, sipping mocha chinos and sighing. Clarence’s eyes suddenly widened. Logan whipped his head around to see the object of his intense staring. His eyes focused and he saw her. His jaw dropped just as it did at the sight of the trophy. But she was much more than a trophy. The one thing Logan did know was that like a trophy, someone this golden had to be earned.
He remembered the dream he had, and threw the hatchet against the wall of the ledge. And indeed, it created sparks.
Gregory heard someone giggle. He banged on the flat of his hand on the door “Let me in. Gregory. Let me in” There was nothing but silence… He waited and called again, but there was no response so he wondered away. He couldn’t demand to be let in and pleading would do no good.
The shared danger of jumping brings Finny and Gene closer. While the rest of the boys hurry ahead at the sound of the bell for dinner, the roommates playfully wrestle until they are late for the meal. They slip into the dormitory, where they read their English assignments and play their radio (against school rules), until it is time for bed.
As Monday morning rolled along, Molly gathered all her stuff at the door and yelled for her parents to hurry or she’d be late to catch the bus at school. With all her things stacked in the trunk of the car, her dad could hardly see past her purple suitcase in the rearview mirror, yet that didn't stop him from driving. When Molly and her family pulled up to the parking lot, it was packed with other seniors and their families, they had to park at the back near the entrance gate which was farther away from the bus she needed to go
Dallas didn’t respond, instead he stuffed the bandana over the bullet wound and heaved Jake to his feet, keeping a tight arm under his good
It wasn't a typical Friday for Josh, the curly haired sophomore. He was just finishing shoving his backpack in his locker when his friend, Taylor, came up to him and said their goodbyes. As the principal told all the students to go outside for announcements over the intercom, Josh left through the back door to be alone instead. He did not tend to have good friends and if he did, they didn't stick with him very long.
There I stayed for the remaining 20 minutes which managed to feel like hours. Finally, we pulled into the front of the school. Any relief in exiting The Bus left me quickly as I gazed upon Royalton High School once again. I had visited the institution over the last three years for my brothers’ wrestling matches, so it was vaguely familiar. After attending Open House the week prior, I became hesitant to approach since last time I had been assaulted by a large group of chatty girls. Only two people names were known to me in this large abyss of hormones, but I’d never meet either of
“I don’t know, but I intend to find out.” Marcus grabbed his keys and headed for the door before he remembered he had a guest. “Are you coming or what?”
He didn’t find her. She had ducked out the back while he was pushing through a crowd of friends, and gotten into he friends car. She hadn’t even seen him fully, only remembering the guy that lifted the host off the ground. To her this was a party she had no place at. Her friend had dragged her along and only conceded to leaving after incessant nagging by Rita. Down the night-shaded road the drove, away from Otis, yet still always heading right for him.
Daniel came back into the room. He stood next to the bed, holding his book, watching us, knowing that he’d walked into the middle of something. Moonpie’s head popped up next to him, watery eyes staring. The four of us stayed that way, waiting for something to
The lights in the room flicker on and off as the cool breeze from the open windows touches their faces giving the chills. “BOOM!” they hear a loud bang up above them. Martha lets out a screech covering her mouth to prevent the sound to echo in the hollow room. Suddenly a large harry beast appears in front of them eying Jim he snatched him up in its hands and runs into the direction they were headed. Screaming once again Martha runs after the vicious animal. “POOF” they were gone. Now alone she will have to complete the mission on her
"Wake up call," I could hear Coach on the other end of the line. "Wake everyone else up in the room and the bus will leave at seven."
“Are you in charge of those nasty kids on the other side of the building?” he hollered.
crying. He looked through the hole on the floor of his apartment, and saw the guards
It was late in the afternoon and they arrived in a small cul-de-sac parked in the driveway of fair sized two-story home. Merit's mother was already inside talking to his Aunt Delia in the den. The front door was left wide open for Merit and his dad to bring in the suitcases. As Merit walked up the stoop, the first thing he saw was a stairway with light beige carpet that stretch up to the second floor.
