Montegut Veterans of WWII are listed in the appendix and have been honored along with other local veterans by the Russell Redmond American Legion Post 272 with a memorial. After leaving his post in Montegut, later in his vocation he received the title of Monsignor. The title of Monsignor in the Roman Catholic Church signifies a priest who has distinguished himself and has been honored by the Pope for his service to the church. Monsignor is an honorary title, rather than a specific position in the church hierarchy, so a Monsignor does not necessarily have any duties distinct from those of any other priest. Monsignor Beauvais was Moderator of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women for many years after leaving Sacred Heart in Montegut. In …show more content…

Marcel Fourcade of Holy Family Church in Grand Caillou, Dulac, Louisiana. Fr. Fourcade graciously refused the position and left for a one-week camping trip with Fr. Gautreaux from neighboring Chauvin. When Fr. Fourcade returned, Archbishop Rummel phoned him again. Fr. Fourcade could not refuse the Archbishop a second time so he accepted the position. Father Fourcade arrived in Norco on June 26, 1959. Miss Laurita Neal, Father's housekeeper and cook, came with him. She was the only live-in housekeeper. It was during Father Fourcade's pastorate that St. Joseph Benedictine was separated from Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, and Rev. Edwin Gubler became pastor of St. Joseph. Revs. Bernard Kramer, F.X. Sarbinowski, James M. McCarthy, and E. John Babin served as assistant, associate, or visiting pastors in 1946. From 1946-1948, Rev. John J. Bendix served the community as an assistant pastor. Rev. Edwin Gubler, the founding pastor of St. Joseph Benedictine, built the parish rectory in 1947.The wooden structure church was moved to the rear of the parish cemetery, and was replaced by the brick building, which was constructed during the pastorate of Rev.
