20th Century music has been known to slowly drift into the realm of atonal music. If you were to research popular music of today, you would find that most composers have been writing by means of atonality. Atonality is a piece of music that does not have any specific key or mode. (Bauer) Notes are not exactly randomized, as they are carefully written, but sound very scattered most of the time. 20th century music increasingly becomes more varied and experimental, and also more atonal like there is no melody and chords tend to be more obscure and seem not to fit the key signature. Some composers however remain tonal but become more experimental with atonality. Some composers of 20th century are completely obscure like Hindemith. A lot of the atonal music during this time period and even so on in the 21st century. Some music tends to be more intellectual and have advanced theory involved to analyze.
