Modern Education Overview

Education in Canada is, for the most part, publicly funded and overseen by the federal, provincial and local governments. A large majority of it is overseen by the provincial and territorial jurisdiction, and they are responsible for the organization, delivery and assessment of education at the elementary and secondary levels, technical, vocational and postsecondary education. There are many similarities in the education systems, but there are significant curriculum, assessment, and policies. Education starts from the age of 5 or 6 and until they are between 16 and 18, depending on the province or territory, and is generally divided into primary education, followed by secondary and then post-secondary.

This impacts the price of education because more money is needed to sustain the schools and the students. In the years 2002 to 2006, the cost of education rose from a total of $72.3 billion dollars to $75.7 billion. This increase in expenditures corresponds to the rate of inflation between those years, an 8.24% increase overall, as well as an increase in students attending post-secondary education.

Furthermore, higher levels of education correlates to lower levels of unemployment. This is evident through the drop in unemployment when education increases as the chart from indicates unemployment drops from 14.1% to 9.4% due to the ability to earn a high school diploma. This proves that education is important to higher levels of employment. Moreover, an educated workforce allows for well-trained workers that are more productive, thus allowing them to earn more money than workers with poorer training. By having a skilled workforce it allows the economy to focus on specific industries in which skilled professionals are readily trained. Additionally, the skilled workers are more likely to be hired by employers because the employers will want workers who are productive and require minimal management, resulting in a more efficient
