Walt Disney Company is raking in profit with its new smash hit animated film, Moana. The movie made over $82 million within the thanksgiving weekend. Although the box results are close to Disney’s massive 2013 hit, Frozen ($93.6 million), Moana scored the second best thanksgiving debut of all time. Disney’s tropical animated story features Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), who voices the demigod Maui and 16 year old Auli'i Cravalho who voices the main character, Moana. Moana delivers a fresh and new conscious experience to both children and adults as it shows a glimpse of Polynesian cultural tradition that isn’t normally shown on the media. It is Disney’s best movie in decades. Yes it’s better than Frozen. It’s better than Tangled. It’s even better than Mulan. Though it’s mostly a straightforward and simple story, it contains a rich mythology that engages the audience which gives this South Pacific world an interesting sense of location than any other Disney movie. In addition, the characters encountered are captivating. Moana is less of the stereotypical Disney princess in which she is confident and fierce but also flawed. Unlike past Disney princess, Moana does not have a love interest that is needed to advance the storyline but has a plutonic relationship with the Demigod Maui that is constantly appealing to watch. What put Moana over other Disney’s film is how the movie graciously implements music and visual story together. This have not been seen since The Lion King but every second of Moana is astonishing. There are a lot of groundbreaking animation achievement in this movie, such as bringing the animated water to life and giving it a personality. The music in Frozen was good but the soundtrack in Moana is superior. One example is, “You’re Welcome” where Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is singing. The song is catchy and manage to stand out.
