The American Association of State Troopers has given 1.9 million dollars in academic scholarships since they were established in 1990 (“Fund raising” 1). “The mission of the American Association of State Troopers is to enhance the personal and professional lives of state troopers across the country by providing important benefits and services, facilitating the exchange of professional and technical information, and expanding opportunities for camaraderie for troopers beyond their own state lines.” The American Association of State Troopers is all about helping retired state troopers get the money they need to support their families and to give students who are pursuing a law enforcement career scholarships.
In February 1989, state troopers in Florida created the American Association of State Troopers to offer other troopers around the country benefits that help them have more control over their lives. The founders of the American Association of State Troopers wanted all state troopers, patrol officers, and state police officers within the United States to train and experience their law enforcement careers in a brotherly way making everyone closer and more united. The foundation AAST was established as a non-profit association that offered membership to full-time active and retired troopers and officers who joined as members.
The American Association of State Troopers was incorporated by the National Board of Directors. (“About AAST” 1). The board members of the American Association of State Troopers have agreed that with the success of AAST's fund-raising program their mission will expand to also include the active troopers and give assistance to other officers besides just the previous state troopers (“Scholarship Fou...

In 1917 Senator Davis of the 23rd district introduced a bill to enact a department of state police however the public did not have strong support for it at the time thinking it would not last. Representative Harding from Warren county in 1921 introduced a rewrite of the bill for a rural state police force
In Rise of the Warrior Cop, Radley Balko views the steady militarization of the police in the U.S. A detailed history of a dangerous trend, Mr. Balko's book tracks police militarization over the past 50 years, a period that not coincidentally corresponds with the rise of SWAT teams but on purpose. Established in the early 1960s and where mostly used in the bigger cities and used against heavily armed and dangerous criminals. Today SWAT teams are almost common in every city in the country. 80% of towns between 25,000 and 50,000 also have their own SWAT teams. Its not li...
During the seventies in New Jersey created a program that could change life in society. This program occurred only in twenty-eight cities. Government and public officials were excited about this concept. Police officials were not so much. Foot patrol made officers walk in sleet and snow. Assigned foot patrol was a way of punishment for officers. State funding of foot patrol shut the mouths of some people. Silence stopped after the “Police Foundation”(Kelling) put foot patrol to the actual test. To contrary belief this rattled some arguments in the community an...
When formed by legislation in 1935, the Colorado State Patrol was created to “…promote safety, protect human life and preserve the highways of this state by the courteous and strict enforcement of the laws and regulations of this state relating to highways and the traffic on such highways” (CRS 24-33.5-201). Originally named the “Courtesy Patrol,” over the last 76 years the Colorado State Patrol has evolved into a comprehensive and complex law enforcement agency, without forgetting its original mission. Through the dedication to its members, both past and present, distinguished professional standards, and industry-leading technical competence, the Colorado State Patrol has stayed true to its traditions while taking on changing law enforcement challenges.

First welcomed to membership were veterans returning home from the battlefields of Europe. Founders of the organization, Frank Shankwitz and Scott Stahl, had not originally set out to begin what today is one of America’s biggest non-profit organizations. They were merely trying to fulfill the wish of their close friends dying son, Chris. Chris who was 7 years old had been diagnosed with leukemia and had always wished to be a police officer. Frank Shankwitz and Scott Stahl gathered the funds and support they needed in giving Chris a day he would never forget. Chris spent his day as a police officer. He received a customized police uniform, a badge, which once belonged to a retired lieutenant and became Arizona’s first and only honorary DPS officer. As word spread, more and more people wanted to take part in bring forth a smile to a dyin...
