I have been on two mission trips and both of them have left me with a feeling of urgency and a realization that so much more needs to be done in resepct to the Gospel being lived out and shared. It is also enlightening to see the difference in how my everyday life compares with other peoples' normal routine. They have so much less and yet they still have joy, they have been throug hso mcuh worse and yet they smile. The kids I have met are so strong and the people who work there are so compassioante. I'm glad you were able to go. I had heard about Mrs. Sturely and I am so sorry that she continues to struggle with this affliction. I am praying for her and your family. Mission Santa Barbara was founded on December 4, 1786 by Father Fermin de Lasuen. Mission Santa Barbara was the 10th mission founded. Mission Santa Barbara was built near Siujtu,a Chumash village. Water was channeled from adam constructed in Pedragoso Creek, high above the mission. A two-mile long stone aqueduct carried water to a storage reservoir and settling tank constructed in 1806, and attributed to Indian mason Miguel Blanco of Baja, California. A second aqueduct carried drinking water to the mission,its fountains and lavanderia washing facilities. The original buildings were adobe,unpretentious, and a clay common to dry areas. The original purpose of the mission was christianazation of the Chumash Indians. Mission Santa Barbara is one of two missions who still run under Franciscan order.
This experience was really out of my comfort zone. It was hard to be an outsider and not prepared for what was to come and not speaking one of the languages used to understand the entire service. This service learning project gave me the opportunity to try a new church and gain a deeper respect for a different religion. Everyone at the service was very educated on speaking the sacred texts and participating in the rituals practiced. I hope to have gained a better understanding for those who are new to religions and are nervous to come to a worship service. I will make more of an effort to be welcoming and accommodating to those who are new to our church.
I visited the House of Compassion which is facility in Marshalltown, IA. House of Compassion is a non-profit organization that opened twenty years ago. They are a place of hospitality for those that our hungry, homeless, or in need of medical assistance. The services they have include a supply closet, soup kitchen, emergency shelter, and a Medical Assistance Program. The supply closet enables them to supply personal hygiene products for families in need, diapers is a common need that is often forgotten by the public. The soup kitchen provides food for those that our hungry, and recently the House of Compassion as started a Garden of Compassion which they use to grow food to continue to feed and inform those that our in need. The Emergency Shelter is available for those that have no where to go. They have many beds for people to sleep in, and they are encouraged and supported while they are staying there. This is a common place for people to come in transition, in refuge, and most that come of a sense of hopelessness. Reversing this hopelessness is what the House of Compassion is hoping to do. They want to provide basic needs and help people back on their feet and experience again the hope that we have in Christ.
Mission San Juan Capistrano is a mission like no other. Mission San Juan Capistrano was founded in 1775 and in 1776. Serra’s Chapel was the first permanent building. It was made out of Adobe brick instead of wood. Local native Americans helped build the mission and hang the bells. The people worked for 8 days then stopped. They buried the mission. The people came back the next year to dig out and rebuild the mission. A neat fact about San Juan Capistrano is the brand of their livestock is the letters C,A and P twisted together. San Juan Capistrano is called the jewel of the missions. This unique mission is not an ordinary, everyday mission.
Although it was wonderful to see how happy the people were and how interesting it was to see another culture, this was not what impacted me the most. Every night, the three girls I shared a room with and I would have group devotions. We talked about some of the things we struggled with and it made me realize that I need to open up to people more more. I am very independent and I don’t like people knowing a lot about me, but how am I supposed to share God’s love if I don’t talk to people? After going to this service, I did not really learn anything new about Christianity in general; I just got a better understanding of what and how a Sunday Mass is practiced at a Roman Catholic church. I have always been curious as to what was actually done in a Sunday service at a church, and this visit cleared up all of my questions regarding this situation. I found it very interesting how everything was done and how everyone participated in it, even the priests. This experience did make me realize that religions, in general, help bring people of all ages, genders, and races, together.
In February of 2010 a teacher at my high school was diagnosed with an uncommon form of cancer called angiosarcoma. Ms. Ensign was a business technology teacher. Along with her teaching she was a varsity softball coach, varsity volleyball coach and an athletic facility manager for the school. One could also spot her at sporting events and school assemblies taking photographs for the school yearbook. Ms. Ensign would be treated monthly in Houston, TX. Even though she had this rare form of cancer, one would never know because she always returned to school the next day after her treatments. Ms. Ensign was the most positive woman I have ever met. She was someone who gave everything to her community and asked for nothing in return. How would one give back to such an amazing person? Fortunately, a senior named Manda conceived a plan to help, She called it Mission Ensign. At the end of our program, classes are ending, and events are winding down, but emotions remain powerful. We will all face reentry, and deal with it in different ways, and I'm sure that all of us are thinking about what this means personally. I do not know what the first thing is that may come to your mind when you think of home. Maybe you are scared that your little sibling took over while you were gone, and you will have to resolve this in a civil manner. Or, it could be that you are really looking forward to the mashed potatoes that mom is going to make, just the right way. In our circumstance, however, it is likely that you just can't wait to get home and wash your clothes thoroughly.for free! Chances are that you have thought about your family, and are excited to get back. Whatever it is that you think about when you think of your family, it is familiar to you. Family is, in most situations, what is stable and comfortable in ones life, when everything else around is changing.
The agency mission is related to the practice of social work because the agency seems to want to make sure a client has the resources to prevent a possible crisis. The agency wants to provide self-sufficiency to the clients. Social Workers try to help a client overcome their challenges that may be difficult during their life. There are many people who go through traumas in there life and do not know how to cope. They may feel like they are better off not being in the world. Some clients had some type of abuse in their lives to cause them to separate from the world. Many people suffer from depression, addiction, and Mental illness, and feelings of suicide. Sometimes a person may think that self medication is the answer; not understanding that its just patching up a sickness that may become worse. A home is not just a roof over your head; it is a place of safety and acceptance. It is a place where you can let yourself go and be the “real” you. Home is a place where you can go when you are angry or sad. It is a place where people who love you are waiting for you. But home does not have to be a postal address; it can be found in your closest friends, your car, your workplace or even in the library. The standard definition of “home” is the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household. To me, home is where the heart is; meaning home is where you feel you belong most in the world.
A pastor has a great responsibility to minister the Word of God and to be a shepherd to his people. The pastor must be committed to biblical truths when he engages the work of the ministry. Some of these truths include: The Bible is the infallible Word of God, his preaching must be from the Word of God, and he must do proper exegesis to get to the authorial intent and proclaim that to his congregation.
“Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends (Robot check).” A place becomes a home for me when I am around all the things that I enjoy and love. For example, when I am around everyone that I love, I enjoy a peaceful environment and the beautiful landscapes around me. The interpretation of home for me is not a physical thing that I see or that I can remember or even certain thoughts that I can relate, but it is a sensation that overcomes me when I envision being in the comfort of my own home. However, I know that this is a feeling that is calming to my soul and it quietly reassures me that I genuinely belong in a place where I can be free from people constantly judging me.
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
It is hard to define religious experience as a large part of it is subjective. By their very nature religious experiences are incredibly personal and differ wildly from individual to individual. Everyone is going to react to a religious experience differently; some will dismiss it, others will take it to heart and it can change their lives. Religious experiences can happen from almost anywhere, from the beauty of being out in nature or in the middle of a church service. How one interprets a religious experience is largely “depends on the culture, ideas, and language of that particular time and place” (Thompson, 7).

I agree that the best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide. Admittedly traveling is a time where there is more fun, exploring and learning new things, refreshing and relieve all stress.
