I believe that the speaker mode of my selection is epic because there are more than one voice that speaks. Most of the time that narrator, who is undefined, speaks. At other times between dialogue, characters such as Elizabeth and Miss Clara speaks. Throughout the selection, the audience modal analysis shifts based on who is speaking and who is being addressed. Majority of this text’s audience modal analysis is lyric. The main character Elizabeth always address herself and what’s going on in her life, and about her husband. This book is also revolves around God. The main objective of the book is to allow God to be the head of you life. Throughout the book, Elizabeth, words, thoughts, and concerns are mainly addressed towards her husband Tony. One example of dramatic mode is a simple line when Elizabeth states “Well, its Tony,” starting to vent to Miss Clara about her problems. Another example of dramatic mode is when Elizabeth states “Tony, he’s completely unaware,” explaining to Miss Clara how her husband is starting to be absent from their daughter’s life. Epic mode only takes place in this selection when the narrator addresses the audience with opinions, statements, or questions. One example of epic mode is when the narrator states “Clara held up a hand and Elizabeth stopped mid-sentence,” letting the audience know why Elizabeth suddenly stopped talking without completing her thought. Another example of epic mode is when the narrator states “Elizabeth felt her face grow warm,” explaining to the audience that Elizabeth was starting to feel embarrassed for rambling on about her husband to someone who was getting tired of hearing …show more content…

I will move close to the audience by dragging my feet a little in order to create a shuffling sound when the text reads “She heard shuffling in the front room.” I will speak with enthusiasm and greet my imaginary character with a “hug as she entered.” Just before Elizabeth begins to vent to Miss Clara, while speaking in the narrators voice I will speak with remorse due to the fact that Elizabeth experiences issues with her husband. When Elizabeth states “I don 't want to burden you with my personal life,” I will caress my face as if I’m literally trying to wash the frustration off of my mind. Then, when the text mentions “Elizabeth goes off on a tirade,” I can start pacing a little, back and forth to show anger, overwhelmed, and lack of patience. As Miss Clara starts to speak, I will speak with joy due to the fact that she loves God so much. I will gesture most of the time by looking up to the ceiling when talking about God, in such lines as “You got to plead with God so that He can do what only He can do.” While shifting back to the character of Elizabeth, my voice will mostly sound sad and defeated. I will once again put my hand on my face and let my head hang low when the text mentions “Elizabeth face grew warm,” indicating the feeling of embarrassment.
