Benefits Of Recycling Essay

Recycling is an important part of maintaining life. Recycling effects every aspect of life, whether it is recycling plastic or recycling compounds. The basic concept of recycling is to convert waste into something useful or reusable. When we begin to look at recycling as a whole, or to determine what process is most important in our community, we must first look at the big picture. Recycling doesn't only effect our individual community, it effects the Earth as a whole. With this in mind, everyone would benefit from recycling. The most beneficial forms of recycling are natural processes call mineralization and bio-remediation. Mineralization is a process where fungi and bacteria convert organic was into inorganic form. Fungi and bacteria are …show more content…

This process is know as bioremediation. Bioremediation involves several types of microbes, known as consortium, that decomposes and mineralize substances. All organisms participate directly in recycling, but only certain categories of micro organisms have the metabolic pathways for converting inorganic compounds from one nutritional form to another. Bioremediation works simply by bacteria feeding on contamination, taking nutrition for growth and for reproduction of complex chemical reactions to occur, but the result of this natural process is that contaminants are used up completely or are converted into an innocuous product such as water and carbon dioxide. The microbes will survive and live off their contaminant food source until the unwanted pollutant is remediated. Organic contaminants susceptible to biodegradation include oil, carbons, pesticides, and some explosives. Factors that influence bioremediation are extreme temperatures, low dissolved oxygen, and low nutrient concentration. Microbes are a lot like us, they need a comfortable environment to excel. Different microbes prefer different environments. Some like the heat, while others like the cold. The microbes needed for bioremediation tend to prefer moderate temperatures and a good supply of oxygen in order to feed and
