There is no set work environment for being in the military. It can range from behind a desk doing paperwork, to fighting on the front lines. How your work environment is chosen, is primarily by what branch you’re in, and what MOS you have, there are other factors that go into what your work environment is as well. Many of the members of the military are often placed in dangerous and possibly life threatening situations, and they have to remain vigilant, physically fit and mentally sound in order to hold this job. Also your rank plays a big part in where you go because you may be better used elsewhere due to your leadership abilities.

To be an enlisted member of the military you need to meet the age requirement of at least 17 (with parent consent), pass the minimum ASVAB score for that branch, and also meet the physical requirements of that branch. Each branch has different PT (physical test) standards as well as different ASVAB score requirements. Meeting the minimum score requirement doesn’t mean that you’ll get in, 70% of the people the Air Force have taken in the last year scored above a 50, but the minimum requirement for that branch is a 36. Starting with the lowest pay grade being an E-1 (Enlisted first rank) and the highest being an O-10 (Officer tenth rank). As an E-1 your starting pay would be $1,516.10 and as an O-10 your starting pay would be $15,913.20 this is why most enlisted personnel strive to rank up to be an officer, not to mention the satisfaction of becoming an officer. The military also has many programs which can help pay for some or even all of the money you’d have to pay for college.
