Unnecessary Change for Military Retirement America is known for having the greatest military in the world. One of the reasons that we are number one is because we do whatever it takes to support what the American people think is right. A part of supporting the military is supporting the troops that are fighting for our freedom. On January 1st, 2018, the military is creating a new retirement system called the “Blended Retirement System” that is a concern for future service members. History tells us that there have been over 60 changes to the retirement system since it has started. All which are based on “reflecting the nation’s needs, public opinion, and economic standing”. With a combination of personal reasons, quality of life, and pay members may choose to move to civilian life. For example, a person with 10 years of service might decide not to re-enlist because of a more stable job opportunity and a better retirement option as well. Specifically, the “Air Force is trying to grow their force to ________.” This may be harder in the future because people that aren’t educated on how to manage their portfolio and didn’t take advantage of that match option may just move on to something new. __ explains “In a recent survey I conducted of 250 West Point graduates, an astonishing 93 percent believed that half or more of the best officers leave the military early rather than serving a full career.” People are already considering leaving the military and this could be the last …show more content…

For the people that are always spending time away from their families and deploying this will be a number one reason to not stay in the military. The time that people spend deployed as opposed to back home is at a 1 to 2 ratio right now ( ) and its always subject to change. The DoD conducts annual meetings to review the morale of the troops and it’s unbelievable that this new retirement system was just passed over. The government rather save money than take care of its service members. This new retirement system is in the best interest of saving the country a little money; nonetheless, is it worth the risk of potentially having an influx of service members leaving. The last thing our country needs is our government to continue to take away from our troops, which would force them to leave. If this continues to happen our volunteer service might become mandatory like other countries such as South Korea. The government says that it is trying to help out troops, but ultimately it is to save billions of dollars because of inflation and increased life
