On February 17, 1963, a businessperson, actor, Olympic athlete, and said to be one of the best professional basketball players was born. Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York but grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. He went to the University of North Carolina in 1981 and became an important part of the basketball team there. He scored the final basket needed to win the NCAA Division I championships in 1982 and was named the NCAA College Player of the Year in 1983 and 1984. Michael Jordan was also a part of the U.S. Olympic basketball team, during the summer of 1984. The team won the gold medal for those games that year and he also helped the American team get the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games.

Well, is it just me or does that sound like a lot of time in the game of basketball? In 1982 he took a big step up from highschool to college, where he wanted to pursue the basketball dream. He went to college at North Carolina where he played NCAA basketball for just one year before he was drafted in 1984. All eyes were on him when he went on the court, because that just how good he was at the game of basketball. In fact, James Jordan, Michael’s father, actually thought that Michael’s best sport was baseball. He started his career at the University of North Carolina, where he helped his team win a national championship. He then was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984-85 season.
