Michael Jordan is the most decorated basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Michael Jordan is well known among many people for his accomplishments in basketball. Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 (Biography). In high school, he did not make varsity until his junior year because of his size (Gordon). Later, he signed to play basketball with North Carolina University (Gordon). Michael Jordan was drafted into the NBA by the Chicago Bulls, he was only in this third year of college (Gordon). With all of his success through basketball, he has became well known to many people across the world. He has had endorsed products like sporting goods and video games (Michael). Michael Jordan, popular among sports fans, makes people want to buy the things they see him on or the things that have his name on it. Todd Boyd said, “When you talk about an athlete who clearly dominated his sport but also transcended the sport in terms of his success as a brand, his ability to market products, just what Michael Jordan came to stand for after a while was perhaps the biggest transition anybody’s been able to make from the basketball court to highest realm of American popular culture” (Morrissey). Overall Michael Jordan has helped the economy with his popularity and many endorsements. Michael Jordan has helped many people through charity work. He has donated large sums of money to hospitals and struggling children throughout the United States. The center was opened to the public after Jordan made a personal donation of 2 million dollars and another 5 million dollar donation from his team. The foundation was to strengthen and motivate families, youths and promote academic opportunities among children. It offers the youth and children opportunities to realize their potentials. This center attracts thousands of people across the country for different sporting and relaxation purposes.
