Mia Wallace, the wife of Marcellus Wallace, may not be an antagonist. Yet, I felt that she is a perfect example of the Freudian ID in writing. In the show she has a tendency to do only what she wants to do and only in that moment. She is constantly being decisive, and instantaneous in her choices. Pulp Fiction is a show that is debated on its true meaning, though one of the most debated and accepted theories is that it is the journey of Marcellus Wallace’s soul. It is thought that he has sold his soul to the devil and has sent his men to retrieve it. As the movie jumps across the timeline with his wife, Mia, who becomes a main character. She is instinctual and anxious. Her emotions take over constantly and create bad situations. ID is defined …show more content…
As one of the gangsters takes Mia out for Marcellus, she will only go to one place for dinner and will not go anywhere else. Then proceeds to order expensive food and an expensive milkshake because she wanted to. In the restaurant she forced the gangster to dance with her to win a contest that was set up the moment before. Finally, when she gets home, she starts to drink alcohol when she finds a powdered substance in the gangsters jacket and without asking, decides to snort it thinking it was cocaine, all of this just to get the maximum feeling out of the moment. Unconvincingly, rumors are thrown around of possible cheating and even a foot rub that she received from a gangsters. And then her husband, Marcellus, threw the man out of a window many stories up from the ground. If the stories are true, then she knew he would inevitably die from this action. If they are fake then she may be in the clear for at least this action of the ID. Continually throughout the movie Mia only looks to help herself, she only cares for her and her husband and will only satisfy herself regardless. Best we leave out that the “cocaine” was actually heroine. And snorting heroin creates an immediate overdose. She does come through and makes it home safely and although it is not completely known. There is an assumption that Marcellus does get his soul back. Mia wants him to have his soul back for her pleasure, she also wants to do anything

In the novel Maise Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear, the main character, Maisie Dobbs, at the age of 13 becomes a domestic servant that works for Lord Julian and Lady Rowan where she blackened the fireplace, swept the floor, polished the furniture and ran errands for Lady Rowan. With Maisie only having one job she was able to move in with Lady Rowan and Lord Julian, other known as the Compton’s. In Maisie’s free time she took it upon herself to read some of the books that she had gotten from the library to further her knowledge. I have done my research and none of the domestic servants have said that they have once had free time to do other thing. In the novel Maisie Dobbs it fails to tell the true reality of domestic servants instead it shows

Pulp Fiction is rebellious in the way that it manipulates all usual plot structures by twisting time to satisfy its own system. The film tells a series of interlocking stories involving; two hit-men, a boxer and his French girlfriend, a crime boss and his mischievous wife, a small time drug dealer, two lovebird robbers, and two hillbilly rapists. However, all these stories revolve around three main plots; Vincent (John Travolta) taking the crime boss’s wife out (Umma Thurman), the crime boss asks the boxer (Bruce Willis) to throw out the boxing match, and the two lovebirds de...

In the last few weeks, with several tragedies occurring in the world, ethnocentrism is very present and even when talking about social, political and economic issues as well as, art. The term art in the past, has been given the definition of being primarily based on aesthetic beauty, and not focused on the emotional construct that art also possesses. Similarly, gender roles encourage women to conform to their norms the same way society thinks art should just be an aspect of beauty. The emergence on performance art in the late sixties, was a way of challenging painting to add an emphasis on the feeling art gives through performance. Marina Abramovic, performance artist, uses her performances as a tool

If you aren’t familiar with Pulp Fiction, it isn’t your typical movie. It consists of three separate story lines that are seeminglessly integrated and twisted together. Each story has their own little plot, but as an overall movie these plots don’t combine to make a coherent narrative. We as the watchers need to piece together a coherent narrative of the movie as Pat Dowell states in his article Two shots at Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. With that being said, it may seem hard to believe that the theme of redemption stays consistent throughout the whole movie.
Writer Amanda Mote argues in her essay “Taking the ACT” that the ACT is not fulfilling its purpose as a knowledge standards test. She claims that the ACT is a taxing test that does not test students sufficiently over the knowledge they have built over their high school career. However, this evaluation of the ACT is inaccurate because it does not correctly assess the true purpose and approach of the ACT test. The ACT was created to assess a student’s “college readiness”. This test is not meant to determine the knowledgeability of a student. It is meant to test their ability to comprehend and solve a problem efficiently. The ACT is a taxing test for students, but it’s still manageable; several students even decide to retake the test multiple

There are movies that make you laugh, that make you cry, that blow you away with jaw-dropping, ever-so-satisfying action sequences. And there is Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece, an homage to the old Pulp Magazines and crime novels popular in the 1950s. Known for their incredibly dense and complex dialogue and excessive violence, Tarantino adds his trademark nonlinear chronology and thorough character development to create a movie that celebrates the fact that chance governs all of our lives. The film consists of multiple stories that tell of the criminals, gangsters and outliers of Los Angeles, the underbelly of society. It follows Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield as they embark on their mission to recovering a briefcase that
