Can anybody definitely say that his or her language is completely different from that of the person next to him/her? Can anybody really say that there are no similarities in between two different languages? The answer is no. All languages have various similar aspects to them that they share with each other. On the contrary, however, they also have various fundamental differences that separate, classify, and isolate languages, and this is true for both Spanish and English languages. One of the things that most people say about Spanish is that it is so difficult to learn if you are not around it much because so many different sounds are related to each word. However, the same applies to the English language. In order to acquire the correct forms of pronunciations of each language you have to surround yourself with the language. This derives from the distinctive phonological sounds or the sounds that are associated with particular languages. Spanish, for instance, only has five pure vowels that sound the same at both the beginning and end of each word that contains these vowels. “Specific problems include the failure to distinguish the sounds in words such as ship/sheep, taught/tot, fool/full or cart/cat/cut,” the Frankfort International School (referred to as FIS from here on out) states in describing the specific problems that some Spanish speakers usually have when they try to learn and speak English. I find that such problem is true; many of my family members who migrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic actually pronounce many words like ship the same way they would pronounce sheep or sleep. The way the sentences are structured, the way they are simplified. These are all things that make these languages different. However, they have some similarities which allows the average speakers and learners to acquire the language much easier than most. It is essentially because of these parallel circumstances that so many English speakers have been able to learn and speak fluently both languages without any trouble. In essence and in a simpler manner, they are like husband and wife, both have their differences that will never change and yet they have various resemblances. They are the true perfect couple. In the story “Bien Pretty” by Sandra Cisneros, she describes her experience in the English and Spanish language. Cisneros is a Mexican American writer that tells us that she prefers making love in Spanish over making love in English. Cisneros claims “nothing sounded dirty or hurtful or corny” referring to the Spanish language. Her thoughts on the Spanish language is that it sounds and is spoken more softly and not so aggressive. Similar, in a poem by Marjorie Agosin by the name “English” states that the narrator loves the Spanish language. Verbal and written language is how people communicate with each other and encourage thoughts, achieve goals, and build relationships. Speaking a single, or multiple languages, and growing up in different setting can seriously alter the way that people speak the same language. This can either encourage diverse communication or make communication all but impossible. For the most part I speak English fluently, it is the only full language that I can speak and I developed this language growing up in a small farm town in the middle of New Jersey.

The difference in dialects was overcome by the written word and eventually a version of Mandrin became the “official speech” (The Cambridge Illustrated History of China, 1996,p.304). In America there are many ethnic groups with many varieties of language. The U.S. was created through many people from different countries migrating to the new states. In the U.S. there is an “official speech” which is the English language. The language of both these countries are not only different in meaning and sound, but also reflect the way in which the people in these societies live, believe, and function.

Instead of saying I went to the store with my dad you say I went to the store with my potato. I know there is some foreign languages that make clicking noises, grunts, and guttural noises. I had a Brazilian and a German exchange student last year and listening to the German exchange student Anna, talk to her parents she sounded so angry but she would just be talking about my cat or her day. I find languages to be such a lovely thing people can use to better their knowledge of the world and talk to people in the way they naturally do.
The two languages are very similar, so much that it is very easy to understand between the two countries. The languages do not need translation due to writing in what is called standard English. Standard English is the written English format used in all three countries making it very versatile and easy to understand. There only a handful of similarities between American English and British English. There is more of a difference than there are similarities.
This is because it has different verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, tenses and nouns that make it easy to learn compared to other languages like Chinese and Spanish whose system is hard to grasp. In most cases, many non-English and Chinese speakers will understand the English alphabet faster than the Chinese and Spanish alphabet.
