Introduction The MGM Grand hotel and casino is located on the Las Vegas strip in Paradise, Nevada. MGM Grand is the world’s second largest hotel by number of rooms and the largest hotel in the United States. The 30rd floor resort includes five outdoor pools, rivers, and waterfalls along with a large convention center, spas, numerous shops, night clubs, restaurants, sporting events, and the largest casino that occupies 171,500 square feet. Today, MGM Grand includes four towers with more than 6,200 guest rooms, casino space with 2,100 slot machines and 165 game tables ( vault). When MGM Grand opened originally the intentions were to create a destination hotel right on the strip that was family friendly but the facts showed poor results. MGM went into a major renovation, appealing to more mature clientele and revamped their name to “Maximum Vegas” referring to the vast amount of activities offer to guests. Today, Nevada has the strictest sprinkler and life safety requirements. The law now states that any building over 55 feet requires to be equipped with a fire-sprinkling system, updated construction codes, and employees to have emergency training skills. MGM Grand has made strides since the fire of 1980 and developed a strict preparation for a safer community, employee’s development training, and fire prevention. The MGM Grand installed a $5 million fire-safety system along with other safety equipment. The new system was able to monitor 1,900 locations throughout the hotel and automatically activate up to 1,000 different life-safety functions to halt the spread of fire or smoke and help guide hotel occupants to safety (lvstriphis).
