Out of the multiple events that contributed to the Mexican-American war, one was Mexico gaining it's independence from Spain in 1821. Right after, Mexico was in a chaotic state. Their economy was declining and there were numerous rebellions, amongst other problems. Due to the large amount of vacant Northern Territory, their government supported US settlers in hopes of further developing the region. Mostly through this agreement was that Texas' population was mainly American. Although Mexico was very welcoming, they still had a couple of conditions for moving in – pledging loyalty to Mexico, converting to Catholicism, living on the purchased land for at least 10 years, and were against slavery.
