In this lesson, we learn about Mexico and Texas. In 1820, a new territory was born. It was Texas, they was opened to American settle, but was property of a new nation called Mexico (page 79). In 1822, Mexico was created. The people of Mexico fought in the revolution to gain there independence from Spain. The Mexican government realize they needed a populate that vast in the northern territories and overspread it with civilization (page 79). They allowed the American people to move to a free land. However, there were four condition: 1, learn to speak Spanish and speak it as a primary language,: 2, convert to Catholicism,: 3, became a naturalized citizen of Mexico and 4,don’t bring slaves in Mexico territory. He threatened the American people with military force, if they don’t obey the condition. The American people consider break free after the threat. In 1835-1836, Anna led his army to Texas, a war broke out against the Mexican government and the people of Texas, and this event was the starter of the Texas Revolution. Santa Anna’s won two victories from Texas. The Siege of the Alamo, Anna killed over 300 Texans, this battle was known as the Goliad Massacre. Many people wanted the United States government to help Texas. Sam Houston captured Santa Anna and put an end to the Texas Revolution. Texas had won their independence from Mexico. Texas became an independent, sovereign nation in 1836 (page 81). The people of Texas wanted to be a states of the United States. It wasn’t until 1841-1845, when John Tyler was president, that Texas would be seem by the United States Government. There were many issues Texas had to face before being annexing. The first issues was, Mexico still claimed Texas. The second issues was, Texas didn’t have definite border on the west and northwest of its territory. The Mexican war started, because Polk offered Mexico a fair price for their land, Mexico refuse the offered. Polk sent the U.S. Army to the border of Bregion. The Mexican War started in 1846-1848. The battle of Santa Fe was led by United States leader Stephen Kearney. Kearney won that battle because the people of Santa Fe surrendered. Another threat was in Mexican territory of California. California was populated by Mexicans, but a lot of American live there (page 84). John Fremont, a pro-American forces, and Californians had proclaimed their territory as a free, independent and sovereign republic. Californians want to join force with the United States.
