The Mexican American War was a clash between the United States and Mexico. This was a fight for area where Mexico was battling to keep what they thought was their property and the U.S. wanted to hold the disputed place that is known as Texas and gain a greater amount of Mexico's northern grounds. The Mexican War had two main causes. One of the causes was the thought of the "Manifest Destiny". This held the importance of the principle that America had a God-offered right to occupy and develop the entire landmass. An extensive number of Americans moved towards the west hunting down land. They didn’t even pay any attention to the fact that people were already living in these areas. President Polk taught and controlled the vision of Manifest Destiny, and did offer to purchase the southwest land from Mexico. But, the Mexican government rejected the offer, and in light of this conflicts kept on rising (History.com).
