Methods of Persuasion Used in Two Articles

Many innocent animals endure insensitive pain that may result to death. Thousands of animals are being tested on for company’s products. In the labs, products such as drugs and cosmetic are being tested on animals before it is determined safe for humans to use. Some may say that this is the best way for it provides safety for humans and no one is harmed. On the other hand, there are others who feel animals are the ones being harmed and we do not have the right to use them as test subjects. In the two articles, “Animal Experimentation Is Necessary to Ensure Product Safety” by Partners in Research (PIR) and “Using Animals for Medical Testing Is Unethical and Unnecessary” by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), provides arguments to back their claims on animal testing. Even though I am against animal testing, I believe that Partners in Research did a more convincing job in arguing that animal testing is necessary and the right thing to do to guarantee human safety. In the article written by PETA, an organization for animal rights, discusses how thousands of animals die every year through animal testing. This article does not describe any incidents that happen to the animals when they are tested on certain products. PETA only describes animals before their deaths, “some are forced to inhale toxic fumes, others are immobilized in restraint devices for hours, some have holes drilled into their skulls, and other have their skin burned off or their spinal cords crushed” (1). PETA begins the article with the method of pathos as an appeal to the audience’s emotions. This technique gets the readers to feel sympathy for animals that die every year during the animal testing process. For example, PETA states, “ animals th... ... middle of paper ... ...ience on their side of the argument and PIR’s tone seemed to put the readers at ease and lessen the worry of animal testing.
