The effects of drugs are terrible. Drugs have ruined many families and lives. However, there have been many attempts to get these addicts off drugs. In trying to cure addicts, doctors have tried to treat them by giving them the drugs that they are addicted to. Drugs should not be used to treat drug addiction.
There are various effects of drugs, they include hyperactivity, sickness, dizziness, hallucinations, and can also lead to death. However, despite these symptoms people still use drugs. Drugs are very addictive and cause their users to crave them. Addiction to methamphetamine can occur quickly, as repeated use lowers the brain's ability to make dopamine, leading to increased cravings for the drug.(Murray, B., John 1998) Most users are addicted after the first use.
These drugs have been used for many years. APs, a class of stimulants, are derived from alpha-methyl-beta-phenylethylamine. APs were first synthesized in 1887. The related substance MAP was synthesized approximately 60 years later. In 1931, the first commercially available amphetamine appeared as a nasal inhaler containing d,l-amphetamine used in the treatment of nasal congestion and rhinitis. Because users reported that the drug induced sleeplessness, tablets exploiting APs' effect on sleep as a treatment for narcolepsy appeared in 1935.
In 1936, college students began to use APs to stay awake during examination periods. Business men and their secretaries used them to induce increased alertness and to counteract fatigue. Truck drivers became users because APs helped them to stay awake on the road. Facilitation of athletic performance was one of the claims made for APs. Some studies did show a small improvement that might spell the difference between victory and de...

Methadone is greatly overused when trying to treat drug addiction. It has many negative effects when it is used too much. It can shorten your attention span and mess with your brain. That is why you should not treat drug addiction with it. It takes a long time and it gives some of the same side effects as the drugs that they are abusing so there is not much help it treating people this way.

There are many biological factors that are involved with the addicted brain. "The addicted brain is distinctly different from the nonaddicted brain, as manifested by changes in brain metabolic activity, receptor availability, gene expression, and responsiveness to environmental cues." (2) In the brain, there are many changes that take place when drugs enter a person's blood stream. The pathway in the brain that the drugs take is first to the ventral tegmentum to the nucleus accumbens, and the drugs also go to the limbic system and the orbitofrontal cortex, which is called the mesolimbic reward system. The activation of this reward system seems to be the common element in what hooks drug users on drugs (2).
It is not uncommon to view drug addiction as a problem that is created and maintained by the drug addicts. Most of
The literary Methamphetamine: The World’s Most Dangerous Drug (2006) briefly demonstrates and elucidates the jeopardizes and current situation about the narcotic methamphetamine. Methamphetamine which is also called meth is a powerful drug that can bring addicts 6-12 hours of excitement;in addition, during the time the addicts will become extremely energetic and strong. However, at the time of people take the advantage from meth, meth will also destroy both humans’ body and brain. The damage from meth is 3 1/2 times more powerful than the cocaine. By the telling the story about the addicts, the literary also demonstrates the metamorphosis of humans’ body after they taken drugs. Metamorphosis is hard to be prohibited by government because the process and cost of producing meth is extremely easy and low; people can manufacture meth in their back yard by a very low cost. This is also the main reason meth is spread so quickly not only in North America but also in word wide; therefore, many tragedies have happened throughout the time. After the first time I watched this lecture, apprehension, anger and sympathy had taken over my mind.
Amphetamines produce feelings of euphoria, relieve fatigue, improve performance, increase activity, and suppress appetite. Euphoric effects associated with the use of amphetamines, increase potential for abuse. Consequently, prolonged use of amphetamines may lead to drug dependence and tolerance. Desired effects are only achieved by increasing to higher doses of amphetamine, which can result in an acute overdose. Seizures, hypertension, tachycardia, hyperthermia, psychosis, hallucinations, stroke, or death can be experienced. Additional reports revealed that those who abuse amphetamines were significantly more likely to report using a greater number of illicit substances including nicotine, marijuana, cocaine, hallucinogens, and opiates.
In conclusion I think methadone is a useful medication and can do great things for addicts wanting to overcome their addiction. However it should be a medication given only when closely followed by a doctor. Like Mr. McDowell stated it is extremely tempting to hand over an opiate of any kind and expect the addict to take it as directed. Putting that much responsibility into addict’s hands is more than most are capable of handling. Like any drug it is sold on the streets as well as prescribed by a doctor. Police treat methadone the same as any other drug as well. It seems to me that it is our doctors and treatment facilities that need more education and requirements for disbursement that could help the statistics turn around.

“Meth, not even once” is a popular phrase that is associated with this drug. This drug has many known horrible effects associated with it, plus many effects more I am sure are going to be discovered over time. I am intending to cover the history, effects, the different categories of meth abuse, and the withdrawal effects of Methamphetamine in this paper, and what to do if you suspect someone you know is using meth.
Methamphetamine is a stimulant for the central nervous system (O’Connor et al., 2006). This particular drug affects the pleasure sensors in the body by accelerating them to an extreme level (Siebel & Mange, 2009). Meth causes the brain to receive an abundance of dopamine, a chemical which is responsible for the sense of gratification (Siebel & Mange). According to the authors, a meth user’s brain can receive over one thousand percent of the normal levels of dopamine. This abundance of joy, commonly known as a high, can typically persist anywhere from eight hours to as long as twenty-four hours. After prolonged use, tachyphylaxis takes effect (Watanabe-Galloway, Ryan, Hansen, Hullsiek, Muli, & Malone, 2009). This is when the user does not get the same high that they had previously received from a particular dose (Watanabe-Galloway et al.). According to the authors, to fix this requires the user to increase their meth dose. After a user continuously consumes meth, they begin to lose their ability to feel pleasu...
The physical and chemical properties make heroin a desirable drug. It is highly addictive and fast acting, which lure users in. The first time one uses the drug it is said to cause disagreeable feelings and nausea. But following further use it causes a sudden rush in your brain, lasting 1 to 2 minutes, that feels as if it is relieving all the tension one has, followed by a calm and relaxed state that can last a few hours (“Heroin in the Brain”, n.d.). These feelings of satisfaction and ease make this drug ...
Drug addiction is more complicated than medicine thought in previous years. It’s not because someone is weak or unable to control themselves. They are chemical such a dopamine in the human body that makes the process difficult. The brain works in a neuropath way and drug interrupt the normal process which stops the frontal lobe to work as it should. Treatment isn’t done right and patients tend to repeat their habit after they get out of rehab. Psychological treatment is not as effective as chemical injection for dopamine to reward the brain. However, even after the treatment is complete, it will be a life struggle to stay away from drugs since the brain will always look for a simpler way to reward itself.

Drug abuse and addiction are issues that affect people everywhere. However, these issues are usually treated as criminal activity rather than issues of public health. There is a conflict over whether addiction related to drug abuse is a disease or a choice. Addiction as a choice suggests that drug abusers are completely responsible for their actions, while addiction as a disease suggests that drug abusers need help in order to break their cycle of addiction. There is a lot of evidence that suggests that addiction is a disease, and should be treated rather than punished. Drug addiction is a disease because: some people are more likely to suffer from addiction due to their genes, drug abuse brought on by addictive behavior changes the brain and worsens the addiction, and the environment a person lives in can cause the person to relapse because addiction can so strongly affect a person.
Abuse can cause countless medical problems to the body. A person who is addicted will continue to stimulate themselves regardless if they are aware of the negative chain reactions. Once addicted, it becomes difficult to stop due to how the body has become dependent. Health will be harmed the more a stimulant is used. Health effects include: cardiovascular disease, strokes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, lung disease, mental disease, birth defects. Mental health is what keeps a person in the right mind to make better decisions and have better control in life. Drugs have the ability to change mood and behavior. If drugs have affected the brain already, the desire increases which changes mental health. Some may not realize that they have been affected their health negatively. “A person who abuses drugs may not realize they have a problem until pronounced effects of drug abuse are seen, often physically. While drug abuse effects on the body vary depending on the drug used, all drug abuse negatively impacts one 's health (Addictions Community). Since drugs create many health issues, treatment is not a simple task. Treatments are hard to obtain and addictions often go
From cocaine to marijuana, drugs come with different names and different symptoms. Cocaine for instance has symptoms of increased body temperature, increased heart rate, and increased blood pressure. Methamphetamine (meth) on the other hand includes symptoms of a wired feeling, extreme weight loss, shaking, anxiety, and hallucination. Another drug is marijuana which includes side effects such as compulsive eating, bloodshot eyes, occasional paranoia, and hallucinations. Lastly and one of the most addictive is heroin which includes symptoms of euphoria, entering into a dreamlike state, or heroin could even act as a stimulant. All these drugs are different in their own way but some are connected because of their classification. Classifications of drugs include stimulants, cannabis, hallucinogens, antidepressants, depressants, narcotics, and inhalants.
Drug addiction is a very big problem in today’s society. Many people have had their lives ruined due to drug addiction. The people that use the drugs don’t even realize that they have an addiction. They continue to use the drug not even realizing that their whole world is crashing down around them. Drug addicts normally lose their family and friends due to drug addiction.
