Methamphetamine Use: A Health Assessment Perspective

This paper examines the health assessment perspective on methamphetamine use in adults and it explores the implications of the drug and the public health response to this epidemic by reviewing data and results. This paper evaluates health risks on Methamphetamines, planning intervention in the community, and public health policy. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive synthetic drug being made by both young people and adults in the United States. This fact is confirmed by government officials that focus on illicit drugs. Pontzer (2013) points out that the main problem is probably due to the increasing use of the drug, the availability on how to make the drug and the information about the ingredients needed to make the drug on the internet (para.4). Review of Report Researchers agree that millions of people struggle with methamphetamine every second of the day and everywhere around the world. Methamphetamine does not exclude or forgive class, gender, race, age, or religion and it is a serious global problem with severe consequences within every community. For example, an article in the 2006 September issue of People's Magazine, gives us a glimpse inside the struggles of drug addiction for Fergie, the singer from the Black Eyed Peas. In this case her drug of choice, at the time, was crystal methamphetamine. "It was the hardest boyfriend I ever had to break up with. I dug deep as to why I got there- it's the drug that's addicting. But it's why you start doing it in the first place that's interesting. A lot of it was being a child actor; I learned to suppress feelings" (Silverman, 2006, para. 3).
