After falling behind in classes with grades in previous semesters, I plan to start early and not slack off and think I have time. Before I tell you how this will be accomplished I will tell you why I am taking Meteorology 206. I am taking this class first and foremost because it fulfills my science requirement. However, I chose Meteorology 206 because I have always been interested in the weather and how it works. The first step for my success will be to take my own notes in class because it helps me to remember the information more. I will then take these notes outside of class to use to study for exams and for assignments. Also outside of class to prepare for class I will read the upcoming chapter. This will not only help for class but will
*TASP*: this she emphasized quite thoroughly. She also suggested to try spending extra time studying, utilizing different methods of studying such as flash cards, talking with a buddy from class or visiting the professor, and even making YouTube. (The latter I’ve already tried and actually helped me a lot!)
What is a tornado? A tornado is “a rapidly rotating vortex or funnel of air extending groundward from a cumulonimbus cloud.” (Haddow et al) Tornadoes produce destructive winds that can destroy everything that comes in its path. Meteorologists use the speed of the winds to classify the strength of tornadoes on the Fujita-Pearson scale. The weakest tornadoes, F0, have wind speeds from 65-85 miles per hour, all the way to an F5 tornado, with winds in excess of 200 miles per hour.
In the thought provoking short story "August 2026: There will come soft rains", composed by Ray Bradbury, Sci-Fi conventions such as technological advancements, have been clearly recognised as being able to manifest itself in both positive and negative ways. The text while essentially recounting a typical day in the year 2026, subtly intorduces the destruction caused by the dropping of a nuclear bomb, whilst at the same time highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of technology on everyday households in the future.
Do you believe in Witches? Back in the 1600’s they started to think that people were witches. I am not sure why, but they did specific tests to see if you were a witch. There were many different theories to why people started accusing people of being witches. You tell me are there witches or are they fake?
In the essay “The Way to Rainy Mountain” by N. Scott Momaday, honors the Kiowa culture and describes its traditions. The author employs a wistful tone, to convey his expression towards the lost of his heritage. Through the use of rhetorical devices, the author conveys his thesis precisely. Diction also plays a vital role in expressing tone. N. Scott Momaday in his reminiscence demonstrates nostalgic longing for a time that cannot be salvaged and is gone forever. The author reminds us of lost tribes, lost religions and lost hope as well as how important a person's heritage is to them.
The “normal” temperature for the day meteorologist forecast is based on median value. According to AccuWeather meteorologist they use multiple different factors to forecast temperature. The first step they look at is what has happened yesterday which is used to forecast for today and week, they take into account of temperature, pressure, wind speed, and precipitation using tools like satellite and radar. Also, surface map helps meteorologist identify weather location, like high and low pressure, cold and warm fronts, cloud cover, wind and precipitation. The next step "Meteorologists have computer models which model the atmosphere using parameters such as barometric pressure, temperature, humidity and a plethora more of complicated mathematical
Ever wonder what the atmosphere consists of? What's it made out of, what type of weather patterns are there, what does a hurricane look like, or other natural phenomenon's of today's weather ? Well America, hopefully now we can! Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere and the effects it has on our weather. Climatology focuses on how atmospheric changes alter the world’s climates, aeronomy is the study of the upper parts of the atmosphere. Meteorology focuses on the lower parts of the atmosphere, primarily the troposphere, where most weather takes place. It has been released that under the supervision of NASA, President Dwight D Eisenhower and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) that they have launched a satellite called TIROS 1 out of Cape Canaveral, Florida that will observe, record, and transmit data back to headquarters. The first ever weather satellite has arrived and with much hope will change weather prediction for the future.
Climate, weather, and meteorology are 3 words that seem to be the same but in reality differ significantly. Two of these concepts pertain to the atmosphere but differ in what time and place they are studied in, and the last one is studying these concepts.
The storm of 1938 was one of america's worst natural disasters. A category 5 hurricane with wind speeds up to 150 mph. With no warning to the east coast the hurricane was a big surprise to everyone. Because of the surprise no one was prepared which caused huge impacts. Not only was the storm fatal because no one had time to prepare it was also one of the strongest hurricanes recorded in american history.
Another factor of weather are thunderstorms. The definition of a thunderstorm is a rain shower during which thunder is audible. According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm must include winds of 58 miles per hour or greater, hail an inch in diameter or bigger, or a tornado. Many perilous weather events are allied with thunderstorms. Cumulus clouds are the ringleader of thunderstorms. Conversely, under the right circumstances, rainfall from thunderstorms instigates flash flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes or lightning. Lightning is responsible for many fires around the world each year and causes fatalities. Powerful winds like straight-line winds are often supplementary with thunderstorms, a crasher of power lines and mobile
There are a lot of people dying each year in the U.S by Hurricanes and Tornadoes. I am writing this essay to tell the people which is worse a Hurricane or a Tornado. People should know which is worse. Just think about it you can see tornadoes from far distance, so you have time to run away, but on hurricanes you kind of can’t. Stay tuned to find out which is worse.
One thing I noticed immediately while in class was that connecting dates to their significance events was incredibly hard for me to remember. I would take diligent notes, pay close attention in class, and clarify any questions I had. But in class the very next day, I had forgotten almost everything. This made testing especially difficult. I knew I would have to come up with new, innovative methods for learning. I began trying new methods of note taking such as reorganizing them so I could connect words and numbers. For example, in English class when studying vocabulary, I would associate the definition of a word with another word that rhymed or sounded similar. I quickly realized that this was the best way for me to memorize long lists of definitions. Take the
One advice I wish I have had when I started this class was to ask questions when I did not understand something. I wish I have asked more questions during class, because I spend a lot of time on me own trying to understand the topic by reading the textbook. If I had done this earlier I would have understand the topic so much better, hearing Ms. Fellows explain it to me would be so much better from reading the textbook. One advice I would liked to have early in the semester was do not wait till last minute
Suspense; Suspense is the intense feeling that an audience goes through while waiting for the outcome of certain events. It basically leaves the reader holding their breath and wanting more information. The amount of intensity in a suspenseful moment is why it is hard to put a book down. Without suspense, a reader would lose interest quickly in any story because there is nothing that is making the reader ask, “What’s going to happen next?” In writing, there has to be a series of events that leads to a climax that captivates the audience and makes them tense and anxious to know what is going to happen. And Suspense, is what “August heat” primarily uses to keep its story so invigorating.
College is the whole new game. As you started your new journey, you need to balance the social and academics, if you don’t have that balance than nothing is going as you planned. College isn’t always like you thought and see in the drams. Just come to the classes and chill all the time. When I started the college, I have an 8:00 AM class to start my days. since I was new for everything I got hard time to manage time for my four classes homework. I was so prepared as I started the college because I heard some experience from my friends and how college will work but I didn’t think it was going to hit this hard. So, I learned it is important to balance and time management. Also, sometimes I feel, it is another roller coaster with many twists
