Treating Mental Health in a Young Mind Mental health issues can be very detrimental to a person’s life at any age. Adolescents who experience these issues may be at risk for a lifetime of struggles if they do not receive proper and effective treatment. Determining the weak points in treatment plans for these young individuals and developing improved methods of care is essential for an increase in healthy outcomes. In order to increase health promotion within this area and to have a better chance for successful outcomes nurses and other healthcare professionals need to recognize how to help adolescents seek treatment, how to engage these young individuals in treatment, and how to help them complete their treatment.
Target Population Adolescents are at a vulnerable stage in life and individuals with mental health disorders may find the process of finding help to be difficult. Therefore, this makes concerns for the mental health of adolescents a top priority to avoid more severe …show more content…

The severity of symptoms expressed in a patient, their willingness to engage socially, and their ability to handle their situation and the changes that treatment brought to their situation were all identified as obstacles found to promote disobedience towards their treatment. Patients who were able to engage in the ward activities and group sessions, and patients who were able to understand their condition were found to be more successful with completing their treatment plans. Patients who believed their medication was helping them to get better also seemed to be more willing to adhere to treatment than those who did not believe their medication was helpful.
