Men and Women

Men and women have been misunderstanding each other for generations ,

probably since the beginning of time. Numerous research articles and

books have been written on the subject, with all of them drawing the

same conclusion, boys and girls speak different languages. These same

gender differences, whether genetic or learned, become parts of the

communication pattern that stays with us for life. All throughout

their childhood, boys and girls have had diverging values of one

another and the way they live their lives. Both genders are faced with

many obstacles that they must overcome, some face the challenge and

others take the hard way. Their priorities change and personalities

clash, and their outlook on life has many differences and

similarities.

For girls, growing up can be very difficult due to things such as

puberty, popularity, and of course boys. I have found that most

teenage girls choose a priority early in life and stick with it,

hoping to fulfill their desires as growing women. For many girls,

though school is a top priority, friends and boy friends are their

they surround themselves with friends who act as security blankets, or

shelter from the pains of life. Girls tend to care much about their

looks. For them it is a constant competition, so every day is like a

beauty contest. Once puberty hits, hormones

kick in and this is when a girls true values are shown. The decisions

such as sex, relationships, and honesty are where their morals are

kept or broken. Girls of course always want to be "in with the in

crowd." Many times they sit b...

amount of research with girls, fewer studies have studied the role of

social and cultural influences on body image concerns and associated

body change strategies among boys. It has been suggested that boys may

be less influenced by social and cultural pressures than girls.

So teenagers do have many of the same views or values but they are

interpreted in different ways. The sensitive girl concerns herself

with her looks

and popularity. She strives to be the best in her academics and in her

looks. The solid boy is focused on the female and her body and her

beauty. His academics are a small priority and though he has a wish of

being the best, he will settle for whatever he gets. These diverging

values make teenage boys and girls look very materialistic, though

many may be, others are just trying to fit in.
