Other issues to consider in regards to a legal and ethical aspects of surgery are, patient dignity and confidentiality. When performing an invasive procedure such as this you need to remember to provide dignity and respect, while following patient’s wishes and supporting their decisions in regards to the procedure. Dignity should be provides by draping the body correctly and only exposing needed areas. In signing the consents they are accepting that you are knowledgeable and will provide confidentiality of their procedure. When a patient walks into the OR they are entrusting everyone to be competent in their abilities and possess adequate skills to do no harm. Some such complications that could occur with a hip revision are infection, bleeding, respiratory depression, fractures and osteolysis in the surrounding bone. Less common complications can include not waking from anesthesia and accidental retention of equipment used (WebMD, 2016) . During this surgery the patient actually did experience a minor complication of excess blood loss. The nurse anesthetist noted a drop in the blood pressure (BP) so they had a stat hemoglobin drawn to access his blood loss, it had dropped from the tens prior to surgery to the sevens. The circulating nurse also monitored blood loss through the collection chamber during suctioning. She said she also listened for excessive suctioning as a sign of greater blood loss. Since he had a blood type and cross done prior to surgery they were able to quickly call the blood bank for blood. Within minutes they had blood hanging infusing into the patient, his overall loss was 1600ml and he received two units of packed RBC with albumin. Because of the diligence of the team and close monitoring they were able to quickly replace blood lost and avoid any further
